Watch Captain (Cook), Cook on Watch, In the U.S Navy

Objective

I would like to work on a cargo ship. I would perfer to work on a ship that deploys for 4 months or longer.

Experience

I served on the USS SEATTLE (AOE-3) from July 1982 to Feburary 1985, While onboard I worked as Cook. We made 2 Six month deployments. I cooked for a crew of 723. Then I served at Naval Station Rota Spain from Janurary 1988 until Feburary 1991 working as a receptionist at a Navy Barracks. I then served on the USS PHILLIPINE SEA (CG-58) From 1991 until 1995 also as a Cook,I cooked for a crew of 400. While onboard I served as Watch Captain. I supervised 2 other Cooks and 8 Food Service Attentants. I made 2 Six month Deployments, a Counter Drug Operation Deployment, and various others. I was in charge of getting all meals out on time and making sure all sanitation standards were at their highest. Then I went back to Naval Station Rota Spain and worked as a Building Petty Officer in the Barracks from 1995 until 1998. Then I served onboard the USS MOOSBRUGGER (DD-998) as a Watch Captain.I cooked for a crew of 400. While onboard we made 2 Six month deployments 1 to South America and 1 to the North Atlantic. I then spent my last 4 years working as a Patrolman in the Security Dept in the Navy. After that I retired after 23 years of faithfull service. In 2007 i started working for Military Sealift Command as a cook on watch. I worked on 4 different ships, The USNS MT BAKER USS MOUNT WHITNEY, USNS SUPPLY, AND 2 TIMES ONBOARD THE USNS ROBERT E. PEARY. I resigned from MSC in 2013 after 7 years.

Education

I graduated from R.J Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem in 1979. I completed Navy Course A-800-0013 Mess Management Specialist Class A in 1982.Navy Course B-322-1050 Medical Entomology and Pest Management in 1986. Navy Course A-493-2099 Safety Programs Afloat in 1999. Navy Course A-830-0011 Law Enforcement. in 2001.
