My name is Donna Schwartz. I am currently seeking a position in Logistics/International Shipping that fits my skills. I am currently employed with Hapag Lloyd America.

My position with Hapag LLoyd America is in vessel operations for the port of Norfolk. Unfortunately, the Norfolk office will be closing June 30 due to downsizing. My title with Hapag LLoyd is Port-Vessel Operations for the port of Norfolk and consists of the following:



Tracking and Tracing export bookings to ensure they make timely arrivals at Norfolk International Terminals for vessel loading which includes rail and truck.



Preparing vessel load list and forwarding to the Stevedoring Company -Ceres Marine- in order to ensure authorized shipments only are loaded to vessel upon vessel calling.



Collects all hazardous documentation and reviews for accuracy and all legal requirements from our partners including NYK Shipping and Orient Overseas Shipping.



Ensures all hazardous information is correct and complete. Once these hazardous bookings are approved by our corporate dangerous goods department. I supply a hazardous goods declaration manifest with container numbers, commodity etc to our stevedores for loading onboard vessel and vessel planning.



Sets up inspections with the National Cargo Bureau for inspections on hazardous tanks, out of gauge units and flatracks to ensure safe water transport on our vessels.



Notifies proper parties of any discrepancies with these inspections.



Fields calls from our customers in regards to vessel callings, container shipments and port cutoffs.



Sets up payment for various invoices in regards to all of the above-hazardous cargo inspections, Moran Towing, Pilotage and port invoices etc.



Works with the port on varying issues related to cargo movement and union personnel.

Professional experience 1987-2005 Virginia International Terminals Norfolk, VirginiaSparcs-Yard Clerk in Operations



Sets up stacking in specific pad areas for Export/Import containers to ensure productivity on vessels and in the yard. Export services are stacked by vessel and port of discharge.



Assigns area in the yard for vessel discharge and informs vessel operations to the specific areas in the pad that vessel will need to work.



Ensures all containers are sent out for stacking on our daily work-list.



Trouble- shoots to determine why containers fail to go out on the daily work-list, which includes empties, exports and imports within the Navis Program.



Concurs with Stevedoring Operations to determine when vessels will work and what containers will load (i.e. ship-lines empties etc.) to determine their specific locations in the pad and transtainer availability.



Works closely with Ceres Stevedores and CP&O on a weekly basis. Assists vessel operations to determine how much equipment will be needed for vessel operations i.e. transtainers and portainers.



Records and inputs all requests for ILA Labor request for time off. Familiar with ILA contracts.



Monitors Yard Foreman and ILA personnel to ensure proper work is being performed at assigned time.



Familiar with the live gate operation using Straddle Carriers.



Fields calls from steamship lines, brokers, and other various agencies in the shipping industry in regards to work being performed.



Customer Service:



I have extensive knowledge of customer service. During my employment with VIT I have worked with steamship lines, brokers, ILA personnel and the trucking community.



Data Entry:



Data Entry was used with the input of inbound and outbound interchange information. Examples would be chassis number, container number, commodity,container weight, shipline etc. to be updated in our inventory system.



Problem Resolution:



Troubleshoots various problems resulting from vessel paperwork to poor production in the field operation. Resolves all issues.



Worked with other departments within the operations division in regards to the ordering of labor and equipment to ensure cost effectiveness.
