USCG Master of Steam or Motor Vessels of Any Gross Tons, Upon Oceans. Currently employed as Ch. Mate

Objective

After a diverse and satisfying career at sea I am seeking to transition to the shore side sector of the maritime industry. My background and training make me uniquely qualified for vessel operations and management, safety and security, onboard training, ship board repair periods.

Experience

I am a dedicated professional mariner, with more than twenty years experience in the maritime industry both afloat and ashore. Having sailed as department head aboard ships with union and non-union crews and with American as well as large multi national crews. I consider myself a team player, but work equally well independently. I have been recognized for the quality of my work and excel at problem resolution.

Sailing as Safety Officer aboard passenger ships, I was responsible for all aspects of onboard safety. Part of my responsibilities was the development and implementation of standardized training programs for compliance with U.S. Coast Guard and International Maritime Organization regulations. I have been involved in shipyard repair programs, major hull conversions and sea trials. I have supervised U.S.C.G. mid period and C.O.I. inspections, SOLAS and A.B.S. inspections and initial passenger ship inspections for foreign flag passenger ships operating in U.S. waters. My collateral duties have filled the billets of Force Protection Officer, Chemical, Biological and Radiological Defense Officer and Ship Security Officer.

I have also served as Mate and Master of ocean towing and salvage vessels engaged in coastwise, inter island and transatlantic freight transportation. I have provided support for research vessels working on cable retrieval and repair, anchor handling, hydrographic surveys, and operating with warships and aircraft. While serving as Chief Mate, my vessel successfully refloated the Nigerian Navy Corvette Erin Omi from the beach outside of Lagos, Nigeria. While serving as Master, my salvage tug extricated the cruise ship Royal Viking Sky from coral reefs outside of Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.

It was my privilege to participate in Operation Just Cause, Operations Desert Shield, Storm and Sortie, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

My shore side employment includes petroleum loss prevention. Analyzing and evaluating petroleum discharge of tankers pier side and super tankers lightering offshore. I have operated my own steamship agency in Port Everglades, Fl. I have worked as a state licensed service technician for my family’s fire and safety equipment company, where my responsibilities included repairing, recharging and installing fire suppression equipment and emergency lighting and specifying and supplying safety equipment to local industry. I have worked as a longshoreman, operating ships gear, driving, loading and discharging bulk, Ro-Ro and container ships. I have worked at the RTM Star Center bridge simulator and as an instructor for Basic Safety Training classes. I perform research and consulting work in the field of maritime safety and admiralty litigation.
