Duties: As a senior student aboard the ship, I was the Department Head of the Deck Utility Department. During work days I reported directly to the Chief Mate and Master aboard the Empire State. I oversaw and carried out maintance and repair of key areas aboard the ship. I was also responsible for assigning duties for the Cadets appointed to me. Moderately heavy physical effort was common; lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds and in working in stretched and cramped positions as well as the use of power tools on a regular basis.
In addition to my time as the Chief Utility Officer I was also responsible for classwork as assigned to me by the cirriculum and Deck Navigational Watches to satisfy STCW requirements on board the ship.
My cumulative work, watch, and class grade for the Summer Sea Term was 3.055
