Tug Master / Tug Captain

Objective


Looking to work for a company with a comprehensive preventative maintenance system and well cared for vessels. Would like opportunity to move from line haul tugs to ATBs if possible. Presently line hauling 80-85,000 Barrel petroleum barges.

July 2005 to Present

K-Sea Transportation, LLC, Pacific Division, Seattle, Washington

Tug Master

Tug Master towing petroleum barges of up to 100k barrels. Areas of experience include: the Pacific, including the San Francisco Bay and Los Angeles and West Coast to Hawaii, Honolulu Harbor and Barber’s Point Harbor; the Puget Sound, the Columbia River; Southeast Alaska, Puget Sound, the inside passage, Canadian waters and up to Juneau, Haines, Ketchikan, etc; Western Alaska, including Cook Inlet to the Aleutian Islands and the Bering Sea northwards to Nome, AK. Responsible for managing vessel crew and the day-to-day working operations of the vessel and the tow in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, ISM and AWO’s RCP standards. Operate tugs to 6500 hp, line hauling petroleum barges to 350 plus feet, with 19 to 22 foot drafts loaded.



August 2005 to Present

Brusco Tug & Barge, Sacramento, California

Tug Master

Casual Tug Master working during my off time from K-Sea (40 days on / 40 days off schedule). Operate Brusco tugs in San Francisco Bay Area, including bridge construction work on the 680 New Bridge Project, working with dredging companies and pushing rock barges up the Delta. Operate tugs to 4000 hp pushing barges that include 5,000-6,000 cubic yard dump scows, 300 plus feet, with 19 to 22 foot drafts loaded.



August 2002 to July 2005 (Full Time) July 2005 to Present (Casual/Part Time)

Marine Express, Inc., Alameda, California

Tug Master

Tug operations performed include stores and water barge movement, ship assist, flat tows of Army LCUs in San Francisco Bay, dry docking ships for San Francisco Dry Dock and dry docking vessels and barges for Bay Ship and Yacht, Alameda. Experience with company also includes tanker barge escort and towing of large derrick and deck barges for companies such as CS Marine, Dutra and Vortex. From July to November 2004, oversaw refitting and re-powering of tug purchased by company in Louisiana. Upon completion of refit, delivered vessel from Louisiana to San Francisco Bay.



August 2000 to August 2002

Associated Dock Enterprises, Petaluma, California

Tug Master

Operated tugs towing various barges in and around San Francisco Bay. Company specialized in dredging yacht marinas and marine construction. Vessels operated include twin screwed push towboats to 1200 horsepower.



November 1998 to May 2000

Westar Marine Services, San Francisco, California

Tug Master

Tug experience in ship assist, tanker and tanker barge escort, dry docking operations and extensive construction work. Construction work included anchor handling and derrick and construction barge towing and shifting on several bay area bridge seismic retrofits, including the San Rafael / Richmond Bridge and the San Francisco / Oakland Bay Bridge. Worked closely moving heavy equipment with companies such as Manson, Kewitt, CS Marine, Dutra and Vortex, including large derrick barges such as the DB General and large 5,000 to 6,000 yard dump scows. Operated conventional and push tugs to 2400 hp.

From 1994 to mid 1995 worked primarily as a casual launch operator and as a semi-full time tug deckhand. Became Tug Master early in 1995 and continued until September of 1997. Experience as Tug Master included mainly stores barge work to ships in anchorage in San Francisco Bay and some construction barge work and anchor handling on the San Mateo Bridge seismic retrofit project.



June 1990 to April 1991

Casual Captain

Operated Red and White Fleet Ferries on San Francisco Bay. Operated Crowley’s oil spill response vessels under contract to several bay area refineries. Operated Crowley’s launches, the Ailine Elizabeth and Mallard, out of San Francisco Pier 9, dropping off and picking up SF Bar Pilots from ships entering and leaving San Francisco Bay.
