Trainee Charterer/Shipbroker

Objective


I am at present in the final stage of a university course at the University of Nantes/St Nazaire (France) which will lead to an MSC in shipping. I have interested myself in the field of tramp shipping and chartering and would therefore very much appreciate the opportunity to become involved in the work of a shipbroker through a placement of a minimum of 3 months as of June 2007. However a longer term traineeship would be welcome.


Experience


May-July 2006:Traineeship as a ships agent with WORMS-MTTM in F-44 Montoire de Bretagne, France

- Interface between ship and land (forwarders, stevedores, shippers, customs etc)

- Documentation (writing of Bills of lading, statement of facts, customs clearance)



Since April 2005: Truck charterer & dispatcher for NTL-Transport & Logistik GmbH on temporary work basis.



July 2003-March 2005: Truck charterer & dispatcher for NTL-Transport & Logistik GmbH in Gronau, Germany.

- Responsible for Import chartering Western Europe, mainly from France, Spain, the Netherlands and Belgium, specialised in consolidation and partial loads.

- Chartering of own and foreign trucks

- Follow up of French clients

- Writing and booking of transport contracts

- Piloting the buying and selling of freight

- Calculation



Nov-Dec 2002: Traineeship as a freight forwarder with SOMALOIR in St Nazaire, France, a deep-sea container forwarding company.

- Writing of ship transport quotations for containers

- Positioning & Haulage

- Documentation (Booking & Bills of lading)



May-June 2002:Traineeship in the sales department of Direct-France GmbH in Kehl, Germany, an import & distribution company for French cheese products.

- Market survey for cheese products destined for the industry

- Creation of price catalogues for the client resellers.



March & Oct 2002: Sales & prospecting mission for PLAST-ECO, import & distribution company for industrial packaging.

- Market prospecting on the fairs of “Alimentaria” in Barcelona (Spain) and “SIAL” in Paris (France)

I hold dual French/South African citizenship and have lived for many years in South Africa, France, the United States, Madagascar and in Germany, which widened my cultural horizons, improving my confidence in conducting relations with people of different backgrounds as well as the ability to work in a team. I have excellent language and communication skills, speaking English, French and German fluently and can use Dutch on a business level.
