• The Second Officer is a Watch Keeping Officer in charge of a Navigational Watch or is assisting a First Officer during such watch. The Second Officer is also assigned some of the following tasks: Keeps maintenance records for all navigational equipment. Corrections to charts, pilot books, light lists and other emergency signaling equipment. Supervises the maintenance of ship's lifeboats, rescue boats, tenders. Supervision of inspections and maintenance of the ships' portable fire-fighting equipment. Ensures operation and inspection of watertight doors. Supervises testing of fire screen doors. In conjunction with Safety and Security Officers and other marine officers, trains the crew in safety.
