Third Mate

Objective

My goal is to find a good career in the maritime industry as a third mate. I just graduated from Maine Maritime Academy recently and have an unlimited 3rd Mate's License (equivilant to a 100 ton master's license. I am eager to start my career and my life in this industry.

Experience

For the last four years I have been a student at Maine Maritime Academy. My freshman year I went on the school's training cruise on our 500' training ship, TS STATE OF MAINE. We went to Aruba, Bahamas, Quebec, and Boston. While on board, I participated in numerous shipboard exercises, watches, maintenence of vessel, and training revolutions. The cruise was approximately 63 days from May 2005-July 2005.

At the end of my sophomore year we had to do something called "cadet shipping". This is basically an internship with a company outside of the school. I cadet shipped with Horizon Lines aboard the Horizon Discovery from May 2006-August 2006 transiting between Jacksonville, FL and San Juan, PR. I stood watches as PIC, supervized load and dishcharge of cargo, participated in training revolutions, maintenence of vessel, and much more. I received an outstanding evaluation and a perfect score on my sea project.

At the end of my junior year, I went on another training cruise with the TS STATE OF MAINE and Maine Maritime Academy. It was from May 2007-July 2007 in which we visited Gibraltar, Sicily, Croatia, and Nova Scotia. While on board I stood watches as PIC, participated in training revolutions, general maintenence of vessel, and much more. I received a good evaluation for being on this cruise and was told I was one of the best cadets on board.
