Job responsibilities held-
? Plan and control all activities connected with safe and efficient operation of the vessel. Ensure the proper and timely support of company ships with regard to technical and nautical supplies, repairs and technical problems
? Report to the General Manager Technical / Technical Manager.
? Supervise Manager procurement Department, Technical Assistants and secretaries.
? Co-ordinate day to day operation of the vessels and coordinate with other departments for the smooth operation of the vessels.
? Evaluate deviations from norms and take measures to ensure operation of same, by familiarizing with the fundamental operating concepts of the deck and engine equipments of the vessels.
? Evaluate all incoming reports from the vessels. Identify areas which require immediate attention and take corrective actions.
? Control of consumption of stores and spares by the vessels and effect timely supply of same in coordination with the various suppliers after making a study of the cost with an attempt to contain the monthly operating cost budget.
? Closely monitor performance of all vessels and ensure that Charter party requirements are being fulfilled. Identify reasons for deviation and take remedial measures.
? Ensure all classification and statutory survey status is maintained, all surveys are carried out within the due dates and that all trading certificates are valid.
? Keep abreast with all regulatory requirements and keep the vessels suitably informed.
? Instruct & verify that regular safety drills pertaining to the various contingencies are being conducted.
? To assist in preparation of all necessary documentations pertaining to H&M and P&I insurance claims for vessels under his charge.
? Undertake technical inspections and reports on vessels condition, performance and operational readiness, formulate an upgradation plan and follow-up with the vessel.
? Planning and management of dry-dock and wet-dock repairs/renovations including prepare/ writing repair specifications and coordinate with various repair firms for effecting major repairs, if any, during the voyage without incurring delay to the vessel, including management of allocated repair and maintenance expenses against budget, oversight of technical purchases and deliveries. Conduct analysis of repair yard tenders. On site supervision of work undertaken by repair yards and report on work when completed. Negotiation and approval of invoices in consultation with senior management and clients.
? Oversee corrective action of non-conformities raised at internal and external audits against technical procedures of the Safety Management System (SMS).
? Evaluate the performance of crew on board and maintain their records in the office.
? Ensure that all items pertaining the safety and pollution prevention are regularly checked with the aim of achieving high standards of safe and pollution free voyages.
? Work on the operating budgets of vessels. Monitor monthly operating costs of the vessels and verify within budget.
? Incident & Root cause analysis, Internal Audits of ships & office, Investigate major machinery failures, accidents and defect reports.

• Personnel Management:
Man management and effective man power utilisation to achieve economy and efficiency. Develop subordinate staff through personal contact, guidance and own professional example.
• Quality Assurance:
Implement safety & quality assurance system on board the vessel to comply with Company policies & ISM codes. Review Quality management systems as implemented, suggest improvements & report effectiveness of same directly to the Company S&Q manager. Ensure subordinate staff are aware of company policies and vessel is prepared at all times for QM / ISM audits.
• Planning and Budgeting:
To carry out Cost Estimation (in consultation with supt), planning and execution of major repair activities undertaken.
• Watch Keeping & Duty Allocation:
Ensure watch engineer duties are carried out safely and effectively; ensure Engine room is manned safely during maneuvering. Take personally and ensure watch engineers daily rounds of all machinery in Engine room and Deck are taken to check for safe and satisfactory operation of the same.
• Spares and Stores:
Prepare timely requisitions and ordering of Spares, consumable stores, Lube and fuel oil, considering budget aspects.
• Drydocking and Repair specifications:
Prepare defect lists, absolutely fool proof repair specifications to eliminate hidden costs. Prepare job plans for drydocking and ensure targets set are completed effectively. Prepare Drydocking reports in detail.
• Planned Maintenance Systems:
Implementation of Computer based PMS by customising to ships specifications, maintenance and updation of same. Assisted surveyors in approval of the Implemented PMS. Use Condition monitoring instruments and plan maintenance as required.
• Communication skills:
