Product Support and Consultant Solutions (PSCS) 2007 – Present

Consultant, Product Development and Program Management Services

Founded and primarily staffed a product consultancy agency and promoted PSCS projects with four major clients.



Specialized in reinvigorate development processes to open world markets for customers’ urgent deliverables. Enhancing specific content, timeframes, and cost structure. Targeted self-motivated participants with initiative and adaptability to new tactics, in short order.

Under contract provided:

· Development of Asian sourced electronic products. Reengineered, qualified and certified these products for approval and use in both US and State government public sector sales

· Planned and performed program promotion to increase efficiencies to Asian Aviation market using available resources of an FAA controlled from a domestic overhaul facility

· Successfully product managed introduced a new Zhone equipment active Ethernet, carrier Ethernet EFM, and GPON now emerging in Middle Eastern markets

· Implementation of an infrastructure overbuild project at a major utility’s in this case using a new Ericsson’s /Ciena OTN architecture.



Zhone Technologies Inc. (Consultant) 2007

Senior Product/Program Manager (Contract)

Responsibilities included for both support and the full life cycle phases, from first concept through product mass market. Management and definition of new products architectures, specifications, and detailed product requirements; developed and managed product phased development plans and support architectural reviews and milestones (gates);

Ensured delivery of critical feature releases to product management; initiated product change notifications; and coordinated product replacement and end-of-life operations. Managed roadmap, margin analysis, and prioritized development priorities to meet key internal objectives. Frequently presented technical material to various audiences. Responsibilities included the oversight and modernization for the elements of the engineering laboratory.



Designed, launched and implemented product and services programs in US market some direct most through channel sales.

· Accurately translated product features and capabilities into a marketable value proposition. Inbound direction; worked directly with customers on issues and solutions by changing competitive initiatives into definable and testable SW and HW specifications to lead the development team.

· Documented these in MRD or PRD and function as both SME and SPI. Capturing and documenting detailed product requirements in a clear and concise manner.

· Chaired and drove cross department development team leading issue tracking meetings and database. Conducted thorough market research, target customer interviews to determine trends, wiliness to pay, then validate a vetted market requirements documents, and create justify business cases for new products concepts.

· Managed a carrier class wireless product providing Broadband functions with remote telnet and PLC monitoring and management functions.

· Wrote test plan for new access architectures and service enabling technologies with Ethernet bridging and switching, then updating to IPv6 subnets for layers at 2 & 3.

· Created and presented sales training materials by Net Meeting, videotape, and in person to all channels and 1st tier Carriers.

· Reported to current CTO and launched product rollout and honed marketing strategies.



Entrisphere 2005 – 2007

Senior Product Line Manager

Marketing management of Ericsson EDA-1500 GPON. Ownership of all residential and business gateways including GPON MxU ONT. Published technical internal and customer support focused white papers, assisted the customer documentation department, and defined customer-training goals. Documentation duties included timely generated product functional and architectural specifications/requirements. Conduct of customer laboratory product demonstrations. Wrote feasibility plan of SW and HW solutions IP protocol stacks (SIP, H248, OMCI, etc.), prior to selection / adoption.



Contributed and attended regulatory and standards bodies and forums as required. Explored newer technologies and communicated the summaries conclusions to management. Added testability to the design reviews and completed key self-test functions from suppliers and development. Implemented product direction and planned product evolution from ATM to IP xPON data transition strategies. Championed the product and its market segment and with limited funding husband resources and partnerships/Oem as required.

· Conceived and implemented product go-to-market strategy, and planned phased roll out of Ericsson HW, SW, and FW components

· Lead cross-functional teams and resolved differences to arrive at a lasting consensus

· Obtained buy-in of feature descriptions key documents and strategies from executives, customers, and developers

· Lead strategic direction for both vendor business and suppliers product roadmap analyses for hardware, mechanical, and software components



Alcatel / DSC Communications 1993 – 2005

Senior Systems Engineer (1998 – 2005)

Lifecycle management and technical support major product components for access products. Duties included conceiving and editing technical and business RFI/P/Q tenders and responses Administered test system oversight of channel banks and linecards including all types of DSL and PON studies and developments.



Applications with product ownership from cradle to grave with P&L. Conceived and updated both internal cross-elastic projections and competitive positioning. Established an excellent team environment.

· Aligned all DSL strategies Alcatel Antwerp, Belgium and Raleigh, NC activities in the Fiber optic DSLAM modem wall initiative standardizing on silicon tests and presenting consistent roadmaps

· Specified test strategy to delivered Litespan R 11 content to the market (first product release to sell more than $1 Billion)

· Reduced partnership preliminary investigation (solicitation and negotiation) time by 60% and increased confidence in market fit and program effort as a business development principle, lifecycle management of these contracts

· Created and presented training materials by Net Meeting, videotape, and in person to all Major Carriers

· Implemented DSL test interoperability policy, maintained highest customer confidence and avoided costs and delays typical in this market segment. Specified a market policy for testing programs and field issues on over 2 Million ADSL lines.

· Researched and designed a specifications tool providing packet, TDM, and power data for any configuration.



Marketing Product Manager II (1995 – 1998)

Defined detailed access product requirements including PRD and FRD writing and revision. Resolved product functional limitations. Provided product roadmap and led the direction while providing technical guidance to engineering team.

Reviewed development ERS and FDS document, including schematics, and Bills of Material. Managed feature content, profitability and closure of customer-generated requests for features and bug resolutions. Led and planned industry technical forums. Created and delivered customer presentations for new product deliveries. Insured customer acceptance of product content. Produced numerous product definition documents for customer agreements. Represented DSC in standardization bodies.

· Co-Patented resource conserving software algorithms for next generation FTTx pre-PON fiber access systems

· Revised and amended system upgrade plans for IP overlay for packet over lambda strategies.

· Participated in major sales presentations clients and made the case for Verizon approval of remote DSL

· Extensive involvement in strategic planning and customer contacts for new products

· Assisted in extensive rewrites of product’s customer documentation, to address errors and inconsistency

· Initiated a “56” kilobit modem market and the competition that accelerated the internet access business segment and the need for operators use of only Next Generation Digital Optical Loop Carrier



Associate Director, New Product Introduction (1993 – 1995)

Organized the planning, staging, and internal testing of products for customer evaluation and use. Facilitated customer acceptance of product deliveries to labs and first office applications. Solely interfaced to customer in order to lobby for product approval successfully. Negotiated with manufacturing on pilot builds.

· Conception and execution for Litespan 2000 Releases 5.3. The customer acceptance of this program was the quickest assimilation time yet achieved, which resulted in the revenue return on investment of 1.9 years

· Attained unexpected profit margins of just over 13% during first year in a loss leader marketplace

· Elevated service levels by recruiting and training a dozen customer service and sales engineering employees



NYNEX 1982 – 1993

Telephone Special Assemblies Manager (1990 – 1993)

Bell Atlantic Telephone Exchange Common Carrier - subsequently part of Verizon

Single handedly drove a company wide responsibility for responding to customer request for services that were not currently offered through standard (tariffed) channels. Provided responsive service offers always positioning for total sales pull through. Revised outdated designs and retired less profitable service offerings. Interfaced and

trained with all tiers of a large sales force.

· Pioneered partnership with other companies to speed cost effective solution sets to the customer base

· Increased special assemblies sales by 250% in three years despite an economic downturn



New England Telephone Transmission Standards and Product Selection Engineer (1988 – 1990)

Set standards for TIRKS designs. Engineered wireless and optical digital facilities and cross-connects. Evaluated products for company wide standardization. Planned for new service deliveries. Implemented new software features.



Founded the companies’ vendor product evaluation laboratory. Wrote RFPs to the vendor community. Selection and integration needs for new products within the operator’s structure.

· Patent granted for design for Remote Maintenance Apparatus and Test System • Presented with NYNEX Chairman’s Finalist Award 1992 for cost control and innovation
