My Role during my employment with BP Shipping:
In November 1997, I joined the Technical Department at BP Shipping Ltd, Hemel Hempstead, UK
My duties consisted of structural and coating surveys during ballast voyages. Preparing structural repair and coating specifications, and supervising the repairs and paint coating to the BP fleet then consisting of VLCCs and medium size tankers at various dockyards in the Far East and Persian Gulf.
I also carried out survey of the ballast tanks on the Cossack Pioneer, FPSO in situ off the North West coast of Australia, prior to a structural enhancement at Dubai Dry Docks.
Between April 1999 and August 2006 I was then involved with the following projects:
As the site Hull Superintendent, to supervise the building of four VLCCs, three large LNG Carriers and four Aframax Tankers for BP Shipping at the Samsung Shipyard, Koje Island, South Korea and the Samsung Fabrication Yard, Ningbo, China.
I returned home to the UK in December 2003 and continued with BP Shipping supervising structural steel repairs to BP owned vessels and major structural repairs and modification of the O.S.B. Arco Ardjuna (BP West Java) in Indonesia and Singapore between May - August 2004.
This project involved the renewal of approximately 235 tons of steel and took 95 days to complete.
In October 2004 I took up the position of site Hull Superintendent at the Nassco Shipyard, San Diego, USA, to supervise the building of three 185,000DWT, twin engine room, twin screw double hull, crude oil tankers, for the Alaskan Tanker Company.
During this project I was responsible for all aspects of structural steel fabrication, paint coating, deck and tank outfit, accommodation outfit and the daily supervision of three Hull Inspectors and two paint inspectors.
This project came to a successful conclusion with the delivery of the final vessel in August 2006 after which, I returned to the UK and continued working for BP Shipping until February 2007.
Employment since leaving BP Shipping in February 2007:
My reason for leaving BP Shipping was that I did not want to return to Korea for another long term project but after working long term abroad since 1999, I felt that due the health of my parents and other family commitments I needed to spend some time at home and concentrate on shorter term projects.
Upon leaving BP Shipping and a short break I decided to form my own company which is named: LSP Shipyard Inspection Services Ltd
I immediately went to work offshore off the coast of West Africa on a short project supervising the de- mucking of cargo tanks and removing redundant heating coils from the slop tanks on the Sendje Ceiba FPSO.
In November 2007 I was employed by Seatec Services, Glasgow to carry out a structural survey the Lash Barge vessel Rhine Forest in Rotterdam, Holland, with the possibility of using the vessel as a bulk carrier.
From December 2007 through to June 2008 I was involved in two large steel repair projects at Dubai Dry-docks for V Ships.
Firstly, I was again employed by Sea –Tec Services, Glasgow on behalf of V Ships (Hamburg) as structural superintendent to supervise 200 tonnes of structural steel repairs and coatings due to grounding damage, to their crude oil tanker SC Sara
Upon completion of the above repairs in early January I was immediately employed by Pro-Tec, UK on behalf of V Ships (Paris) as structural superintendent to supervise major structural repairs of 1200 tonnes and paint coatings to the VLCC Samco Europe, due to the vessel being involved in a serious collision with a container vessel.
These repairs were completed in June 2008.
Upon completion of the above projects in Dubai I was again immediately employed by Sea-Tec Services, Glasgow to visit the Tuzla Shipyard in Turkey to survey the bulk carrier MV Max. This survey was to assess the UT measurements from previous surveys and basically confirm to the ship management company (Overseas Marine Enterprises) that the extensive steel renewals being requested by the class surveyor were justified.
In July 2008 I was again employed by Pro-Tec Services, UK on behalf of Teekay Shipping to monitor a CAP Survey and supervise 60 tonnes of steel repairs to their crude oil tanker MT Scotia Spirit at the Remontowa, Ship Repair Yard in Gdansk, Poland.
After completion of the above project I was again employed by Sea-Tec Services, Glasgow to supervise structural modifications, steel repairs and coatings to the CSO Deep Constructor, a pipe laying vessel belonging to Technip UK Aberdeen.
This project was carried out at the Dormac Shipyard, Durban, South Africa, between August 2008 through to the middle of November 2008.
Directly from Durban, I was again employed by Pro-Tec, at the Malaysia Marine & Heavy Engineering Shipyard (MMHE) to monitor a CAP Survey and supervise steel repairs and paint coatings on behalf of Teekay Shipping, to their crude oil shuttle tanker MT Navion Clipper. This project was completed on the 15th December 2008.
Through February to April 2009 I completed another project for Seatec supervising steel renewals and coatings repairs on another vessel belonging to Technip UK, Aberdeen, at the Arno Ship Repair Yard, Dunkerque, France.
During April I completed a voyage survey for Teekay on a Suezmax tanker between the Azores and Gibraltar and structural survey of two VLCCs with a view to purchase for conversion to FPSOs
June through to September I was employed as Structural Superintendent by Teekay Shipping Stavanger, to supervise steel modifications and repairs to the 124,472 DWT tanker Rita during its conversion at Dubai Dry docks to an FSO for the Persian Gulf
During October and November 2009 I supervised structural steel and coating repairs for Teekay Shipping to their vessel the Basker Spirit at Sambawang shipyard, Singapore and the Navion Marita at MMHE Shipyard in Malaysia.
