STAFF CAPTAIN – EMPRESS OF THE SEAS & VIKING SERENADE (2001 – 2006)
Managed all deck department functions and activities including staff oversight for 2 divisions, 35 personnel, and 695 indirect reporting crew members from 56 countries, ship navigation, bridge operations, ship’s technical and interior maintenance, inventory control, budget management, emergency plan management, ship safety and security. Piloted and maneuvered ship on regular basis. Motivated cooperation between Chief Officer, Safety Officer, Security Officer, Watchkeeping Officers and Bosun to ensure best possible technical and interior maintenance and successful maintenance of firefighting, lifesaving, and oil/chemical spill response equipment. Acted as First Responder and On Scene Coordinator for all emergencies. Served as member of Shipboard Executive Committee.

* Met company, class and regulatory requirements while monitoring and tracking current maintenance conditions and historical maintenance trends by being proactive, hands on and encouraging efficient and timely utilization of resources and human capital through team work and by empowering supervisors.
* Played key role in successfully revitalizing Nordic Empress to Empress of the Seas in three weeks by monitoring all hot works, creating routines, flow chart, and manning requirements for all hot work jobs, and inspecting quality control for all contractor work in staterooms and public areas while in the shipyard.
* Improved cabin maintenance and inspections through creation and implementation of quantified cabin inspection rating, inspection sheet, and Excel worksheet enabling efficient tracking and monitoring.
* Enabled efficient financial monitoring, budgeting, purchasing and inventory on $4M+ annual budget through creation of easy to use automated budget tool including graphs with both current and historical data.
CHIEF OFFICER - VIKING SERENADE (1997 - 2001)
Directed all facets of ship operations including ship stability, ship handling, bridge resource management, navigation, and bridge operations. Led personnel to maintain ship’s interior and exterior including technical, superstructure, hull plating, and tanks, as well as ship’s hotel side. Dispatched and monitored all emergency teams during emergency situations including medical, fire, grounding, collision, oil spill, and chemical spill incidents. Supervised and led 36 deck personnel including deck gang, carpenters, and upholsterers. Assisted First Officers in executing safety maintenance responsibilities. Worked effectively with diverse ship staff from 54 nationalities.

FIRST OFFICER - NORDIC EMPRESS, LEGEND OF THE SEAS, VIKING SERENADE (1995 - 1997)
Managed safe navigation and safety maintenance for three vessels. Planned voyages through use of Voyage Management System and GPS. Maintained all lifesaving and firefighting equipment to comply with company standards, international regulations (SOLAS), classification society standards, United States Coast Guard regulations, and Flag State regulations. Served as first responder in all drills and emergencies. Provided direct oversight for three to six personnel. Interacted with ship personnel from 56 different nations.
KEY ACHIEVEMENTS:
* Streamlined ship's safety plan and improved crew's accessibility to plan by entering it in MS Access, color-coding lifejacket tags, and creating checklist reports.
* Ensured proper lifeboat preparation and launch operations by producing, posting, and attaching lifeboat launch instructions and graphics to lifejackets of lifeboat preparation and launch team members.
* Improved monitoring and maintenance of ship's lifesaving and firefighting equipment through creation of inspection checklists and inventory lists.
* Ensured efficient vessel operations and economical fuel usage by monitoring vessel's stability through consumption, production, and cargo loading.
WOODS HOLE OCEANOGRAPHIC INSTITUTION; WOODS HOLE, MA - 1993; 1994 - 1995

Navigated two research vessels, RV KNORR and RV ATLANTIS II, through all types of sea and weather conditions. Collaborated with scientists to deploy and recover instruments and manned submersible, Alvin.

* Reduced scientists questions to ship's crew and improved safety awareness by writing and producing ship's safety welcome aboard pamphlet for RV KNORR.
* Improved efficiency in calculating and documenting vessel stability through development of automated computer program in Excel to calculate RV ATLANTIS II's stability.
