Ship Superintendent

Objective


Manage ship maintenance availabilities and repairs for US Naval Ships in the seventh fleet area of operations.


Experience


Worked in maintenance, operations, construction and repairs of US Naval ships. 22 years as active duty navy and 7 years as a contractor ship superintendent in the San Diego, Ca area.

Assistant staff material officer for 14, San Diego based Amphibious ships.

Assisted in planning, execution and supervision of maintenance periods and over hauls of various duration and scope involving contractors and shipyards.

Worked closely with the Assigned Port Engineers and Chief Engineers ensuring that the ships received maintenance in the areas that prolonged platform service life as well as enhancing habitability.

All the alterations and repairs were in adherence to NAVSEA specifications.

The on time completion and execution directly supported the scheduling of inspections, training cycles and scheduled deployments.

Skils


- Served in the US Navy for 22 years; advanced from E-1 through O-3; from a Boiler Technician to Chief Warrant Officer to a Limited Duty Officer with ENGINEERING designator.

- Supervised large groups of personnel and trained engineering watch teams in the areas of Operations, Maintenance, Repairs, Fueling and Overhauls.

- Supervised, planned, monitored and trained personnel in the accomplishment of complex tasks of all magnitudes involved in sea going vessels.

- Engineering PRECOM crew; Supervised delivery of a major US Vessel, ensuring delivery was within contractual agreements and training the engineering department of the commissioning crew.

- Supervised Ships Emergent Maintenance upkeeps overseas during ship deployments; Allowing ship to continue to meet commitments.

- Monitored message traffic from 18 deployed Amphibious Units, Assessed required emergent emergent repairs and assisted in the Maintenance repairs while ships were deployed in the THIRD and FIFTH Fleet AOR's (Pacific Ocean and Persian Gulf Areas).

- Ship Superintendent at Northrop Grumman / CMSD - San Diego, Ca. Knowledge of marine-related equipment, ship repair and construction techniques; sequencing of ship repair activities; shipyard safety practices; supervised trade production to meet scheduling and costs as applied to ship repair activities.

- Developed short-term goals and long-term goals including work priorities and schedules for consideration to the assigned Project Manager. Plans, coordinates and directs daily and weekly production activities on assigned ship repair contracts and construction crafts. Effectively communicates and collaborates with managers to develop strategies that result in the appropriate (i.e., timely and skill-specific) deployment of personnel and equipment needed on projects.

- Confers with and directs supervisory and project management personnel regularly to establish and revise work schedules, clarify objectives, follow progress and resolve production issues. This includes ensuring that employees are correctly carrying out the work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of the repair process to prevent delays. Coordinates and orders parts and supplies as directed.
