Experience
THIRD MATE, U.S. FLAGGED PRODUCT TANKER (Nov 2006-Present)
• Bridge Watchstanding: Responsible for industry standard bridge navigational watch aboard two different 600+ FT tankers carrying dangerous cargo. Ensured the safe navigation of the vessel between ports. Accurately enforced and adhered to Captains standing orders while navigating vessel. Thoroughly communicated with other vessels while dealing with heavy ship traffic to ensure a safe sea passage during voyages. Consistently alert, attentive, and calm while maintaining bridge watch.
• Cargo Operations: In charge of maintaining cargo watches including loading/discharging cargo, topping/stripping tanks, ensuring cargo is safely and properly loaded/discharged as per vessel standing orders, monitoring pressures and oxygen content, provided an accurate documentation of events, responsible for monitoring and adjusting speed of cargo pumps, prepared lineup of cargo system for correct transfer/loading procedures, communicated with dock during cargo transfer while monitoring and adjusting cargo/ballast flow into/out of vessel’s tanks. Responsible for maintaining positive stability of the vessel during cargo operations.
• Supervised vessel mooring operations and cargo hose connections; team leader involving emergency and security drills.
• Responsible for maintaining ships safety and lifesaving equipment to meet USCG requirements. Equipment relates to lifeboats, liferafts, fast rescue boat, emergency firefighting equipment, AED, oil spill response gear, eyewash stations, liferings, tank rescue equipment.
• Assisted Chief Mate in a variety of special projects including tank cleaning operations, tested tanks for oxygen and hydrocarbon content, entered ballast and cargo tanks for inspection and preparation for shipyard operations. Helped prepare vessel for a grain voyage. Acquired additional knowledge from a Chief Mate’s perspective of ship operations in regards to company policy, Coast Guard regulations, and ISM code.
• Assisted Second Mate with their duties. Observed job functions and routinely asked questions related to the position.
ABLE-BODIED SEAMAN, U.S. FLAGGED PRODUCT TANKER (April-June 2006)
Vessel: M/V Seabulk America
• Cargo operations: responsible for connecting/disconnecting cargo hoses with respect to cargo transfer procedures, opening/closing tank valves, monitoring pressures/ullages, monitored and adjusted the vessels moorings during cargo transfer operations.
• Vessel Maintenance: routinely entered confined spaces during tank washing/sumping procedures and operated cranes for connecting runaround hoses to ship manifold. Worked under extreme weather conditions, performed labor intensive tasks while confronting time constraints in order to prepare vessels’ tanks for loading dangerous cargo aboard.
• Performed industry standard deck duties regarding arrival/departure procedures; carried out orders and high demands of senior officers with diligence. Received high recommendations from Chief Officer and Captain for promotion to Third Mate.
ABLE-BODIED SEAMAN, BOUCHARD TRANSPORTATION CO. INC. New York, NY (November 2005-March 2006)
• Responsible for mooring and making/breaking tow with barge; responsible for vessel maintenance, upkeep, and organization.

Certification
CERTIFICATES: 2nd Mate Unlimited Tonnage license and all current STCW ’95 certifications. Continuing education certifications include Tankerman PIC, Medical PIC, Fast Rescue Boat, and ECDIS. Obtained 2nd Mates’ license in July 2008. Actively involved in the continuing education program.
