• Test lifting an object 1 to 2 inches to ensure that it is balanced

• Ensure safety with regards to awareness of suspended load and when handling wire rope

• Determining of weights and distances; proper selection and usage of lifting tackle

• Regular inspection of rigging during extended work periods
