QMED Oiler / Electrician
June 2011 to October 2011
While sailing aboard the MV Voyager, I gained extensive experience in operating the 4000hp diesel propulsion plant. The ship was anchored for three months in Deception Bay Northern Canada where the engines had to be started every day. My routine watch procedures included starting the hydraulic pumps for the Z-drive propulsion shaft, starting and shutting down the main engines, and switching the potable water tanks. I became familiar and performed the duties of switching the ship’s service generators by synching the oncoming generator to the switchboard as this had to be done on a weekly basis. In addition to these duties I performed all electrical maintenance and electrician duties.
• Recorded the temperature and gage readings in the engine room log according to the Chief Engineers standing orders
• Assisted in the repair of the reverse osmosis displacement pump
• Troubleshoot and replaced defective relay module for the ships re-heaters
• Maintained the HVAV and ventilation system

Unlicensed Electrician’s Assistant
October 2010 to June 2011
Southern State Electric, Inc. specializes in commercial, residential, and industrial wiring in order to service a broad scope of clients. I have honed the techniques of running electric wiring for lake fountains in various residential developments. Reporting directly to the owner I handled many residential and remodeling jobs single-handed. On one particular project at a new development, I measured and set up the meter and power box stanchions. I installed 10 lake fountains within a 2-week period, meeting our deadline and finishing the job in time for the model showing.

Second Electrician / QMED Oiler
May 2007 to July 2010
Starting with MSC under the Wiper Advanced Program I was promoted to Second Electrician based on my skill sets. I have developed a working knowledge of utilizing power and hand tools of all types while following safety precautions. I have sailed on four different propulsion platforms including steam, diesel, diesel electric, and gas turbine and have been trained on the engineering watch standing procedures by making the engineering rounds and recording the various temperature and gauge readings to the ships log in accordance with the Chief Engineers standing orders.
I have assisted the engineers with repairs and replacement of valves, pumps, motors, and been involved with the transfer of oily waste, CHT ship to shore, and refueling operations. In addition I have used vibration-monitoring equipment and have assisted the ships electrician with trouble shooting and repair of motor control contact relays, machine insulation using a meggor, testing sensory alarms, circuit breakers and replaced lighting fixtures throughout the ship.
I have also used the ships SAMS for performing end of week maintenance checks, greased and lube bearings and fittings, and utilized the Material Safety Data Sheet when handling hazardous materials and chemicals.
• Cleanliness and preservation of all engine room machine spaces
• Knowledgeable in shipboard firefighting, damage control, and marine environmental programs.
• Routine Maintenance, SAMS
While off the coast of Spain doing normal refueling, the vessel we were servicing lost their steering capability. As we performed an emergency breakaway one of the span wire cables snapped causing disruption. I worked with the team to effect repairs to the rig for 36 hours until the repairs were completed.
During our weekly replenishment off the coast of Virginia, I discovered a broken pipe spewing oil causing a major oil leak in the lower engine room. After shutting down the oil pressure in the system I proceeded to make the necessary repairs and assisted in the cleanup operations.
