Experience


Have a total work experience of over 40 years, which includes 15 years US Navy active duty,

7 years US Navy reserve duty, 3 years on various Merchant ships and 22 years of Manufacturing Equipment maintenance.



• Hawaii Superferry – High Speed Ferry, Alakai

Electrical Contractor (June and July 2008)

Troubleshot and repaired various electrical components on the Ferry, including Entertainment System Amplifiers, Caterpillar Diesel generators, pump controllers, Siemens PLC systems, Rescue Boat controls and ship’s lighting.

• Rochester Ferry Co. – High Speed Ferry, Spirit of Ontario

Engineering Maintenance/Purchasing Agent (June 2005–Jan. 2006)

Performed daily maintenance with ship’s Engineers. Maintenance included inspection of all Engines, Generators, Air Compressors, Gear Boxes & Hydraulic Systems. After inspecting the equipment, topped off all oil sumps & made any repairs needed to have all equipment ready for sailing the next morning. Replaced any filters as required. As Warehouse Manager, maintained all ship’s spare parts, lubricants and consumables, created and maintained computer lists of parts and purchased anything required by the crew upon request.

• Eastman Kodak and Ortho/Clinical Diagnostics, Rochester, NY

Automated Equipment Mechanic (Nov 1981-April 2004)

Constructed and maintained High Speed Slide Assembly machines, Slitters and Packaging Lines. These machines used Ultrasonics, vibratory bowls, robots, vision systems, servo motors and more. Maintained all machine PLC systems, computer systems and Barcode readers and printers. Maintained all machine and building Electric, Pneumatic, and Hydraulic systems.

• Military Sealift Command – Ro/Ro USNS Jupiter T-AKR-11

Chief Electrician (Jan 1981-July 1981)

Only Electrician, maintaining all electrical equipment on the ship which included an Electro-Hydraulic Folding Ramp, Cargo Caire systems, Passenger Elevator, Refrigerated Containers, Halogen lamps, AC motors, SSTGs and Emergency Generator.

• Military Sealift Command – Oil Tanker USNS Mississinewa AO-144

Junior Engineer/Chief Electrician (Nov 1979-Aug 198)

Initially stood engine room watches as a Junior Engineer. After a month took over the Chief Electrician billet. Maintained all electrical equipment on the ship. Repaired Battery Charging Station that had been inoperative for many months. Supervised two 2nd Electricians.

• US Navy – Submarine Tender USS LY Spear AS-36

Electrician Mate Chief (March 1978-Oct 1979)

In charge of Sound and Vibration Analysis/Outside Electrical Repair shop. Repaired motors, generators and other electrical equipment, on Nuclear Submarines. After a year, transferred to Ship’s Force to take charge of the Engineering Department Electricians. Trained for Engineering Officer of the Watch in the engine room while underway.

• US Navy – Patrol Gunboat USS Tacoma PG-92

Electrician Mate Chief (July 1976-March 1978)

Only electrician, maintaining all electrical equipment on the ship. Stood throttle watches in the Engine Room “Enclosed Operators Station” at sea. In port, had to periodically get the ship underway by myself. Helped overhaul Cummins Diesel Engines and repair General Electric LM1500 Gas Turbine. Trained the 1st Saudi Arabian Electrician, as part of the Saudi Navy Training Program, the US Navy was participating in.

• US Navy – Submarine Tender USS Howard W. Gilmore AS-16

Electrician Mate 1st Class (July 1975-July 1976)

In charge of Sound and Vibration Analysis/Outside Electrical Repair shop. Repaired motors, generators and other electrical equipment, on Nuclear Submarines.

• US Navy – Patrol Gunboat USS Surprise PG-97

Electrician Mate 1st Class (Nov 1970-Sep 1972)

Only electrician, maintaining all electrical equipment on the ship. Stood throttle watches in the Engine Room “Enclosed Operators Station” at sea. In port, had to periodically get the ship underway by myself. Helped overhaul Cummins Diesel Engines and repair General Electric LM1500 Gas Turbine.

• US Navy – Dock Landing Ship USS Thomaston LSD-28

Electrician Mate 1st Class (Mar 1969-June 1970)

In charge of ship’s Electric Shop. Maintained all ship’s electrical equipment, including deck cranes and winches. Stood watches on SSTGs at sea.

• US Navy – Navy Security Group Activity – Okinawa

Electrician Mate 1st Class (Aug 1967-Mar 1969)

One of 2 Electricians responsible for maintenance of air compressors, heating and air conditioning systems, lighting which included aircraft warning lights on 100 ft. antenna towers, V16 emergency diesel generators and NO Break power supply systems.

• US Navy – Air Craft Carrier, USS Oriskany CVA-34

Electrician Mate 2nd Class (Feb 1964-Aug 1966)

Assigned to the Lighting/Motor Rewind Shop. Worked on all lighting circuits, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, ventilation systems, galley equipment and repair, including rewinding, on motors up to 150 HP. Stood steering watches at sea and generator watches on four 1000 KW generators in port.
