Objective
I would like to obtain a job in the Maritime Industry working at a Port. I would like to be able to have the experience of working with ships and their cargo as they arrive and leave from ports.
Experience
I graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and obtained my Third Mates License. I spent a total of 1 year out at sea working as a Deck Cadet and working the Chief Mate and Bosun mostly. I did everything from working on the bridge to working with the crew out on deck. I have the background for working with ships due to my experience at school and took several classes on port operations. I am also currently in the U.S. Naval Reserve and am serving as an officer. My previous reserve unit was a Military Sealift Command unit. I spent 16 days working with the SS Chesapeake in Camp Pendelton during the Joing Logistics over the Shore (JLOTS) operation in 2008. From that experience I was awarded a Naval and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for my work on board the SS Chesapeake.
Education
After High School I attended the United States Merchant Marine Academy. I graduated from USMMA in 2007 with a Bachelors of Science in Logistics and Intermodal Transportation, my Third Mates License and a commission into the United States Navy. While in attendance I took several classes regarding Port and Terminal Operations, Rail Road Operations, Marketing, Logistics, and Business.
Certification
I have my Third Mates License, unlimitted tonnage. I have all STCW qualifications. I have my Radar and Arpa certification and GMDSS.
Skils
I have a knowledge and experience working with computers and the various programs associated with them. I have learned a great deal of leadership skills through my training at the Academy and my work with the Naval Reserve. I work well with others and have good communication skills. Through my experience playing on various sports teams in College I learned to be a team player and to work well with others. I also am very coachable and eager to learn from anyone in any expertise.
In February 2009, I went down to Houma Louisianna and spent a day with the U.S. Coast Guard unit there. This unit specializes in Marine Inspections and I was able to go on two hull inspections with them and learn about the duties and skills needed to be a Marine Inspector.
