I would like to move into Marine Management or a Marine Superintendents role. I do still enjoy piloting and loading masters positions as well as marine advisors and would consider those as well. The role of Port Captains is also a position which is very appealing.

BP SHIPPING
Worked for BP Shipping from September 1990 until July 2001
• Worked from cadet to Chief Officer.
• Worked on VLCC's, Aframax, product carriers and LNG vessels.
• Sailed on Polish sail training vessel Dar Mlodziezy from Boston to Liverpool.
• Completed any course asked including BRM, senior management course, Fire Fighting etc.
• Reached the position of Chief Office at the age of 27.
TEES BAY PILOT Worked as a Tees Bay Pilot from October 2001 until December 2010.
During my time my responsibilities were:
• Trained for 5 years from trainee pilot to Senior 1st Class Pilot, serving both Teesport and Hartlepool.
• Piloted a wide variety of vessels from small 2000ton coasters to rig supply vessels, panamax bulk carriers, chemical tankers, product carriers, crude oil carriers, LPG and LNG ships, VLCC’s and cape size bulk carriers.
• Piloted barges of all sizes, up to approximately 50,000tons and drilling rigs up to Able UK’s berth on behalf of ENSCO and Shell.
Worked on the following project and consultancy work on behalf of the Pilots and PD Ports:
• Excelerate, Teesport Gas Port project. Worked on the initial project through to feasibility of double banking LNG vessels.
• Conocco Phillips Qmax LNG project and the feasibility of bringing Qmax vessels into and out of the Tees.
• Consultancy work for PD Ports with regards to the Northern Gateway container terminal project.
• Sea Dragon deep sea drilling rig and Clemenceau aircraft carrier project for Able UK Haverton Hill Yard.
• Sea Jack Wind Farms project for PD Ports into Hartlepool.
Trained and qualified to program and operate Kongsberg Norcontrol Simulators. This proved a very useful qualification not only to carryout the project work mentioned, but also to develop simulator training programs for the Tees Bay Pilots, trainee pilots and the conservancy department at Teesport.
During my time as a Tees Pilot I was involved in the committee, my responsibilities included:
• Watch rep.
• Pilot insurance, confirming the cover required and negating cost.
• Attending various meeting with PD Ports, Harbour Master, Port users, Svitzer, agents, Terminal Operators and working closely with prospective companies looking at future business opportunities.
• Pilot training officer. Overseen and developed simulator training programs, carrying out appraisal meeting with trainee pilots and reporting progress back to the committee. I also carried out pilot examinations.
Worked as Vice Chairman during my time on the committee, this role allowed for attend more high level meeting with PD Ports and other port users to discuss and negotiate contracts, pilot remuneration and future business as well as any issues arising which concerned the Tees Bay Pilots. I also work more closely with the Harbour Master on issues affecting the pilots and shipping which occur on a daily basis.
LONGSCAR MARINE CONSULTANTS
I am currently in partnership with 4 other Pilots offering Pilot Resource Management and Enhanced Bridge Resource Management Courses. Both these course concentrates on the relationship between Pilot and the bridge team as well as the Master Pilot relationship. LMC has worked closely with two leading oil companies, the North of England P&I Club, South Tyneside College and the MCA to develop both these courses. The EBRM course has achieved a Safety at Sea award in the UK.
ANGOLA LNG
From January 2011 until January 2013 I was a contractor working for Angola LNG in Soyo in the position of Marine Advisor and Pilot/Loading Master. During this time I have been involved in the preparations for Work Stage 5 and the development of the Port of Soyo and the Angola LNG Terminal. My responsibilities have include:
Force Technology:
• Negotiating training contracts for the ALNG Pilots with Force Technology in Denmark.
• Working closely with Force to validating the Soyo database they made and the project vessel models used for the pilot familiarisation sessions.
• Working with The Danish Hydraulic Institute (DHI), who have modeled the Congo River and put that information into the Force simulator.
• Developed the familiarization and emergency simulator training required by the ALNG for their pilot training.
• Integrated the simulator training into the ALNG Pilot Competency Assurance program, thus assisting in the qualification and examination for the ALNG Pilots.
• Continued to develop and facilitate training programs for future pilots coming into ALNG with regards to Simulator training.
• Work closely with Svitzer and their escort tug masters to develop a tug strategy for the ALNG Terminal.
• Assisted Svitzer in their escort towage training as required for their Soyo tug masters.
• Carryout Soyo familiarization training at Force and become qualified to pilot all vessels in and out of the ALNG terminal.
ALSS/ALM (Angola LNG Project Vessel Operator):
• Developed Soyo familiarisation's sessions on behalf of ALSS for the Masters of the Project owned vessels and company superintendents.
• Develop and present a number of presentations related to Soyo and the work undertaken by the pilots.
• Organised simulations to be used, including demonstrations to the Masters present.
• Arrange portfolios for the Masters and Superintendents with respect to the familiarization sessions.
Svitzer:
• Assisted Svitzer in Level 2 Escort Tug Training for their Soyo tug Masters at Force technology and also on-site.
• Developed simulator familiarisations training programs for the tug Masters with regards to the Pilot and the tug strategy developed and the work carried out by the ALNG Pilot.
• Developed training strategy for tugs, pilot boat and line boat/ handling crews using the Force simulator and project vessels as required.
• Boarded project vessel and carried out tug and pilot boat training with the crews before the first vessel entered the Port of Soyo.
Developed and negotiated maintenance contacts for Marimatech, Seatechnik and Sofrelog who have supplied equipment to the ALNG project. I have also been involved in the commissioning of the equipment when it has been handed over to ALNG.
Soyo Port Control (VTS) Supervisor:
• After extensive interviews, employed 12 Angolans who trained as VTS Operators to work with and support the Soyo Port Control Marine Police.
• Arranged and undertaken English training to a IELTS level so they can obtain English visa and be able to attend the MCA accredited courses within the UK.
• Prepared and developed the training contract with South Tyneside College in the UK to undertake the VTS V103/1 IALA training.
• Overseen the training during the 10 week training course and looked after any concerns the Trainees had during their time in the UK.
• Oversee the continued development of all VTS Operators, including continued VTS Simulator Training at South Tyneside College.
After returning to Soyo:
• Developing ongoing training contract to maintain and continue the VTS Operators training.
• Developed Operational Excellence VTS training program for ALNG and Port of Soyo Marine Police.
• Developed the Soyo Port Control center, included selecting equipment, developing Soyo Port Procedures, recording procedures, integrating the current Soyo Marine Police into the new Soyo Port Control.
• Hold regular meeting with the Deputy Port Captain and to port users to address any issues raised.
• Work closely with existing Soyo Port management to introduce the new Harbour Rules and Regulations to all agents, port users and Stakeholders on how the port will function when ALNG becomes operational, thus providing a safe and efficient Port for or all Stakeholders.
• Develop a Training Record program for VTS Operators to follow throughout their carriers which will enhance their knowledge of all Operations with ALNG and the Marine Team.
• To assist the VTS Operators in their careers I have attended the course required to become a VTS Operator myself as well as the IALA On The Job Training course to understand further how the training should be continued and carrier out.
Soyo Port Procedures:
• Working closely with a company in the UK to produce the Soyo Port Procedures, these procedures have been developed using the UK Port Marine Safety Code.
• These procedures will include the Soyo Port Procedures, Safety Plans and Emergency Procedures, new Port of Soyo risk assessments now that the terminal moves into work stage 5. Also developed Port of Soyo Byelaws and General Directions and any other documents required under the PMSC.
• Holding regular meeting with all Stakeholders outlining the changes taking place with the Port of Soyo, this includes the Port Captain and address any concerns he may have.
During Work Stage 4, been involved in:
• Concession contract meetings with SME’s and ALNG legal representatives.
• Peer Assist workshops with all SME's.
• Marine Readiness review involving SME’s.
• Terminal Readiness review.
• Worked closely with all SME's in preparing the Marine Team for Work Stage 5.
As work stage 4 comes towards an end, I have been involved in the arrival/ departure of a number of vessels carrying out berth commissioning work, as first cargo, emergency response planning and any other meeting where a marine input is required. All these meetings have involved the appropriate department within the terminal and talking through, planning and documented the work to be carried out.
On May 9th 2012 piloted the Sonangol Sambizange, the first LNG vessel to enter and Angolan port and the largest vessel to enter Soyo. The vessel sailed form Soyo on the 13th May and I have the pleasure of piloting her out of the port.
CHEVRON SHIPPING
Started working for Chevron Shipping from 1st February 2013 and once the Angolan work visa is issued will be going back to Angola LNG.
Since starting with Chevron I have spend time in San Ramon, Richmond refinery, El Segundo refinery and with the LNG project team in Houston as well as STS operations of Long Beach. During this time I have been involved in:
• Discussing the new Kitimat LNG project and give a marine input as required.
• Carried out pilot and port operation reviews at Richmond, El Segundo and lightering operations.
• Worked closely with Richmond Pilots to produce a training document for future pilots.
• Investigated the possibility of providing Portable Marine Simulators for Chevrons West African business units.
• Passages on the LNGC Northwest Swan to under go familiarisation training on LNG vessels.
Education
Attended Mill Hill School on Middlesbrough and Acklam Sixth Form College. From there I joined BP Shipping and completed all my qualifications at South Tyneside College, from 2nd Mates to Masters.
Trained and worked as a Tees Bay Pilot for 10 years, reaching the position of senior Pilot for the last 5 years.
Completed Oil emborsment at South Tyenside College and Gas Emborsment at Warshas College.

Skils
Hold a Masters license, pilotage a wide range of vessels as a Tees Bay Pilot, involved in project work of the Tees Bay Pilots and worked with PB Ports on their Northern Gateway project, Excelerate's LNG Terminal on Teesside, completed a feasibility study for Conoco Phillips on bringing Qmax LNG ships into their Teesside refinery, ABLE UK on a number of vessel being brought to the recycling facility and a wind farm project for PD Ports.
Since joining Angola LNG I have been involved in contract negations for training and maintenance contracts, recruiting and training of Angolan nationals for the new Soyo Port Control center as well as setting up the new VTS. Involved in training the new Svitzer tug captains. I have worked closely with Force Technology and arranged, set up and train the ALNG Pilots. Carried out the role of marine advisor to the ALNG project through work stage 4 and into work stage 5.
I am married with a 2 children, however only one of them is a dependent. We are willing to relocate for the correct position, however roational poiistions would also be considered.
