Experience
2004 – 2005: Bulkamerica Corporation, Operations Manager. As Operations Manager:
* Providing all pre and post-fixture operations for 15 to 20 vessels transporting dry bulk cargoes worldwide.
* Liaise with brokers, sub-charterers, operators, agents, and masters worldwide to provide continuous support as needed.
* Solve operational emergencies on a daily basis.
*Provide logistics and strategically planned solutions in order to maximize cargoes transported while reducing cost expenditure.
1995- 2004: National Cargo Bureau, Inc. Chief, Liner Activities. As corporate Oficer and director of all Liner (containerized) port activity:
* Negotiate and administer service contracts for all Liner Activities nationwide.
* Administer all Liner Activities and related technical matters between 18 port offices domestically.
* Create procedures and policies for field applications in accordance with domestic and international regulatory codes (CFR, SOLAS, IMDG, etc.)
* Liaise between US Coast Guard and other Competent Authorities with respect to regulatory revisions, interpretations, and internal distribution.
* Act as public source of expertise with respect to shipboard cargo operations, hazardous materials and other technical issues.
* Serve as US delegate to the DSC Subcommittee at IMO.
* Serve on the USCG CTAC Subcommittee.
* Serve as expert witness in various maritime proceedings in Federal jurisdiction.
* Conduct investigations, surveys and inquiries as Competent Authority on behalf of the US Coast Guard and other flag state interests.
* Publish technical articles for trade magazines and other periodicals.
1990 – 1995: ILM, AMO Meba District II, US Great Lakes Merchant Fleet. As First Class Pilot and 3rd through 1st Mate Unlimited Tonnage:
* Devise trip and load plans and supervise the safe loading and discharge of multiple dry and liquid bulk cargoes.
* Responsible for all in-house documentary functions relating to cargo, customs entries, payroll, discharge, etc.
* Act as Federal Pilot Unlimited Tonnage and pilot vessels in confined waters such as rivers systems, lake passages, lock systems, and harbors.
* Act as direct liaison between the ship and the US Coast Guard during annual inspections, and with outside surveyors during draft, bunker and other surveys.
1983 – 1990: New England Shipwrights, Inc. Proprietor. As owner – operator:
* Directly responsible for all P & L activities for the company.
* Directed all daily production activities for the structural and cosmetic restoration of wooden yachts both sail and power to 130 feet in length.
* Carved ship models and related nautical arts.
* Provide yacht management, deliveries and emergency repairs.
* Purchased and built a charter business from one vessel to seven in four years, owning five sport fishing vessels 38’ to 72’, and two sail 45’ and 87’.
* Captained 87’ Alden schooner.
