Naval Architecture Technician-Structural

Objective

I want to work with a ship design division that needs an addition to thier naval architecture and marine engineering staff. I am getting ready to retire from the United States Goverment Service (Navy) and would like continue my career in marine engineering.

Experience

8/2009 to present

Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, WA 98314-5001

9/1978 to 8/2009

Puget Sound Naval Shipyard Detachment Boston, MA 02210-2144

My work assignments for the Navy results in fabrication and installation drawings for the naval architectural structural division. These drawings are for complex overalls and modernizations of ships systems. I'm a lead technician so I go to the ship and record “as built" conditions and then transfer this into a working drawing using AutoCAD. I have worked in San Diego, Ca. as an On-Site representative for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard detachment Boston. I have done other On-Site jobs in Norfolk, Va. and New York City, New York. I have been on many ship checks including Japan, Italy, Norfolk VA, Bremerton WA, San Diego CA and many other shipyard locations

My Duties include surveying the ships condition and advising on methods for solving production questions and problems through design development and liaison activities with Boston during ships overhaul.

I do this with ship check sketches and taking photos of problem areas. I talk with the contractor and then come up with a design solution. I then submit this to the Boston office for additional design issues. I then submit a final working drawing to the design activity which will submit that to the contractor.

Communication and coordination of work with design departments for other technical disciplines.

Preparation of final drawings and Bill of Material.

I am presently working with small craft....YR, YRB, YRBM, APL, and tug boats. The jobs I do are similar to what I've done on the Ship (LSD, LPD, & LCC)

I have prepared drawings for work items related to the upgrading the YR63 in San Diego, CA.

HVAC UPGRADE

POWER/LIGHTING UPGRADE

GALLEY/MESS DK UPGRADE

ACCESS MODS

BERTHING UPGRADE

LAUNDRY UPGRADE

FIRE/FLOODING UPGRADE

IC/TELEPHONE UPGRADE

HOTWATER HEATER UPRGADE

The drawings are them validated in San Diego, CA. After the validation ship check they are corrected and issued by PSNS detachment Boston.

The awards I achieved were a result of my graphic skills. I recently received a cash award on a project on the USS Ponce (LPD15). I worked on a team that up upgraded the ship systems to extend the life of the ship into the 10 years.

I have spent time in Newport, RI. as I went to Quarter Master A school right after I went to Boot Camp in the early 70's. I also did my reserve time stationed on the USS Exploit (MSO 440) in the early 80's. While my job here in Boston I was sent on ship checks to Newport, RI. I also did extra work on the Exploit in which I redesigned the Chart table for the navigational charts and redesigned stowage shelving for supply. I would do sketches and SIMA would install them on the Exploit and there sister ship the USS Array (MSO 442).
