Naval Architect, Marine Enggineer and Marine Surveyor

Objective

I have specialised in the Rigid Inflatable Boat Industry for the last nine years covering all aspects from repair, servicing, building, surveying and designing, for the leisure industry, workboat industry and the military.

Experience

2009-2009 Naval Architect – Madera RIBS B.V, Netherlands

Job Description: -

Design of General Arrangements for Rigid Inflatable Boats which include a 12.5m super yacht tender that had to have computer controlled systems, subtle deck lighting, fresh water shower system and to be designed with flowing lines that were pleasing on the eye. Other General Arrangements included large seating quantities for military purposes including the boarding of other vessels and these had to accommodate all the equipment and the radio system to which the Military requires.

Another aspect of my job included the placement of all the Electrical Pipe Runs for all the electronics to be run so that they did not interfere with any of the other systems on board the vessels and cover over any inspection hatches, Also the positioning of the Deck and Hull Drainage Systems so that any water that entered the vessel was removed as quickly and easily as possible.

Part of my job description is to carry out Weight Calculations for new builds so that accurate Power Prediction calculations can be derived, and also for boats that have been built already to check whether the boat has been made too heavy in production or whether initial calculations were accurate. The Power Prediction calculations are a follow on from the weight calculations to calculate the type and quantity of engines required and the given cruising speed and top speed of the vessel.

I have had to carry out detailed AutoCAD drawings of products and vessels that are already in production and update and increase the accuracy of the overall dimension and attributes.

The remainder of my job description included new concepts and designs including feasibility studies into whether the concept is viable.

2005-2007 Marine Engineer - Clipper Ventures plc / Zapcat Racing Ltd, UK

Job Description: -

My role within this company covered many different areas in two departments of the company; the first department is working for Clipper Ventures Plc, this is where I was part of refurbishing a fleet of 10 identical yachts that race around the world and this included re-anti-slipping, fiberglass work and engine maintenance. Also I was responsible for the stock control of the store that contained all the equipment for the 10 Round the World Yachts, the 8 retired (training) Round the World Yachts and all the race equipment, show equipment and the spares for the Zapcat National Race Circuit.

I had to be able to maintain and repair, diagnose and scrutinize the engine to a specific tolerance. I was also required to be able to start the engines once they had been submerged in water. As well as Tohatsu Outboards I also dealt with Mariner Outboards and yacht inboard engines.

Secondly I was to carry out inflatable tube repairs, both in PVC and Hypalon® Material. The method between the two different types of material is very different and is carried out under different conditions. The types of repairs varied from small pinholes to over 3m rips.

I was Technical support on all the race events as well as setting up for all the events at the different venues around the UK.

Part of my job was to carry out boat repair / damage surveys and new purchase surveys; this was due to my knowledge of the product and my ability to repair them.

As stock controller I had to initiate a stock control system of all the parts and accessories for the Zapcats as well as a purchase order system for customers and to order replacement parts.

Lastly I had to create Engine training course and a tube repair course that I had to travel around the UK training people how to look after and maintain the boats.

During my employment with Zapcat Racing Ltd, I had to carry out many different testing procedures on the boats for performance and fuel types; this also included a waterproof system for the engine, alternative gear mechanisms, engine protection systems, propeller guards and tiller mechanisms both on land and on the water.

At one event I was also called upon to act as a co-pilot for a one day National Race Championship.
