1975-1989: Founder and President, Fairhurst and Raymond, Ltd., at Scotport by Oban, Argyll, Scotland. Founded business to develop and establish a full service marina at the heart of an expanding cruising ground to include the in-house design, ground works,landscaping of the 8 acre site with 63 acre anchorage.
Company Products:
Design and build 30’ to 37’ steel fishing vessels
Design and fit-out 32’ to 40’ bow loading short haul ferries
Design and fit-out motor sailing and cruising yachts for charter
Provide deep-water mooring and port facilities for commercial vessels and traditional sailing charter vessels
Establish and run two yacht charter companies on a sponsor basis specializing in:
1) motor sailers, typically Fishers 30-37’
2) cruising yachts, typically South Hants Engineering Rival and Moody products
Encourage and facilitate the establishing of yacht stations on the Inner Hebrides with the Highlands and Islands Development Board

93-1999: Detyens Shipyard, Charleston, S.C., USA. Training
Co-ordinator and planner for the shipyard in the original company taking over the Charleston Naval Shipyard. Construction and repair of US Naval and commercial ships and special project development.
1999-2002: Delta Marine Technologies/Andrae Boat Co., Charleston, S.C., USA. Designer and marine superintendent of advanced composites in sailing and motor vessels 55’-100’.
2002-2003: Alvechurch Boat Centres, Alvechurch, UK. Production manager, design and construction of production steel narrow boats.
2003-2005: Fairhurst and Company. Marine consultancy providing design and engineering service on sub-contract basis.
2005-present: Suffolk Yacht Harbour, Levington, UK.
Production/General Workshop Manager. Develop and implement
existing workshop and spray shop facilities and their interface with the 700 vessel marina. Improve production, flow, time management and accounting, implement quality control and manage customer-company directors-workforce expectations. Develop and expand on existing marketing strategy to increase market penetration in the following markets: 1) major re-fit contracts of larger composite cruising and motor yachts, 2) major restoration of the larger classic racing and cruising yacht, 3) improve awareness and understanding of expectations of composite
warranty work and general composite/traditional repairs within the cruising and motor yacht market. Day-to-day management of 20 man full-time work force and approximately 7 man sub-contract force with a non-charge hand departmental breakdown of 8 in-house workshops: yacht fitters (to include plumbing), woodworking, laminating, spray, conventional paint and varnish, metalwork and general engineering, rigging and to liase and work concurrently with 7 on-site but sub-contract based shops within the following
fields: sail loft, performance standing and running rigging,
electrical engineering, gas fitting, marine engine service and repair, stainless and alloy fabrication, navigational instrument installation and repair.
