Naval Architect

Objective

1. Deliver green, innovative, performance-enhancing and cost-saving marine designs to customers.

2. Develop and market naval architectural computer software in order to enhance capabilities in marine design business.

3. Communicate with effectiveness and bring public awareness of marine architecture in order to nurture a growing interest in the maritime industry.

Experience

Research Assistant / Teaching Assistant

University of California, Berkeley, CMML

August 2007 — December 2009

* Developed computational models and simulation programs in the study of the mechanics of ships / floating structures using CFD with Matlab / Fortran.

* Coordinated and conducted towing tank experiments.

* Administered lab computer server and network system.

* Teaching assistant for two courses: Fluid Mechanics and Ocean-Environment Mechanics.

Naval Engineering Officer (Naval Architect)

Republic of Singapore Navy, Naval Logistics Department

July 2002 — June 2007

* Conducted numerous structural assessments:

- Fatigue analysis on aluminum mast with reference to MIL-HDBK-5.

- Shell plating analyses on aluminum high-speed craft and helicopter deck-landing using DNV and ABS class rules.

- Fault tree analyses on fuel tank and girder web buckling.

* Oversaw the production of two high-speed (30+ knots) aluminum/steel naval hull designs. Collaborated with national shipyard, Singapore Technology Marine.

* Implemented several green innovation projects – propeller coating, hydrophobic anti-fouling paint conversion and stern flap retrofitting, yielding 10-15% reduction in operational and maintenance costs, and environmental benefits.

* Technical manager on marine corrosion and anti-fouling. Prepared technical specifications for a $10 million marine paint supply contract.

* Team leader in the shipboard-aviation inter-operational safety program. Coordinated and conducted field safety inspections. Technical manager on shipboard aviation equipment and systems.

* Assistant Program Manager of the Naval Platform Technology Seminars in 2005 and 2007.

Software Product Tester

Tribon Solutions (UK) Ltd

June 2000 — September 2000

* Tested and provided user feedback on European marine design software, Tribon M2.
