Objective


Would like to work as a construction supervisor / inspector for a respectable company building crude oil tankers, LPG or LNG vessels.


Experience


Hands-on test instruments as below:

• Chloride Test Equipments

• Spring micrometer /Replica tape for blast profile check.

• Dry film thickness gauges (Ferrous and Non-Ferrous).

• Wet sponge holiday detector for pin-hole detection.

• High voltage holiday detector (spark tester)

• Cross hatch cutter ( Paint adhesion testing - Destructive test )

• Dolly test ( Paint adhesion testing – Destructive test )

• Other basic instruments for checking ambient conditions (everyday use)

Work Experience

1. Presently with Kuwait Oil Tanker Co. (KOTC) as Coating Insp. (June 2006 & Ongoing) Owner Rep. for New-Building Project (2 VLGC & 1 VLCC) at Hyundai Heavy Industries, Ulsan, Korea.

Scope of work:

? Attend Inspections as to New-Building Specification. Mainly,3 stages for STEEL STRUCTURES.

( 1 ) BLOCK STAGE ( 2 ) PRE-ERECTION STAGE (FORMATION OF MEGA BLOCKS)

( 3 ) FINAL ERECTION STAGE IN-DOCK

(a) Inspection of Surface Preparation/Shot Blasting, grinding and surface cleaning prior painting.

(b) Confirm Paint applied as to specification (Inorganic zinc, Epoxy zinc, Pure / Modified epoxy, Alkyd.

(c) Monitor Paint Application i.e Correct Coating System and Application Interval etc..

(d) Final inspection on coating condition and film thickness and defect rectification.

APPLICATION OF POLYURETHANE FOAM INSULATION ~ LPG TANKS (EXTERNAL)

Special attention during application process from start to finish, monitor Yard sub-contractor`s work activities. Inspection mainly involves at 2 stages.

BLOCK STAGE AND ONBOARD STAGE AFTER FABRICATION OF COMPLETE TANK

i) Surface preparation after blasting or power tooling work.

ii) Before and after Glue primer.

iii) Foam application to achieve specified thickness and Foam Density check.

iv) Finally, Polymeric topcoat application to thickness specified.

? To raise Owner`s Comment or Non-Compliance Report for work found not complying to Specification for Yard`s attention and follow-up on repairs.

? Daily Reporting on all inspection activities and results via internet reporting system provided by DNV Classification known as “Nauticus Construction”

Scope of work:

? Attend following Inspections to ensure is as to Specification.

(e) Surface Preparation Standard for Blasting / Power tooling work

(f) Surface and surrounding cleaning condition

(g) Kind of Paint to be applied (e.g. Inorganic zinc, Epoxy zinc, Modified epoxy, Alkyd, Passive Fire proofing)

(h) Monitoring and Insulation work on Pipes (Hot, Noise and Personal Protection)

(i) Mixing of paint materials and to confirm application method eg. kind of spray (airless or conventional), brush, roller or others.

(j) Wet Film Thickness check to achieve final DFT.

? Final Inspection on completion of touch up work.

? Monitor work progress and if found not complying to specification, prepare non-compliance

report for yard attention and follow-up repairs.



4. Jotun Paint – Aug.2004 ~ Sept.2004 as Coating Inspector ~ Malaysia Shipyard & Eng.



MT Lysaker – i) Tank Re-Coating work for Forepeak, Aft.Peak, 2P/S,3P/S,4P/S & 5P/S

ii) Hull complete re-coating



Scope of work:

• Daily attend meeting and co-ordinate with Owner Representative

• Daily inspection as work progress for surface preparation including painting work.

• Keep track of relative humidity , dew point and Steel temperature.

• Chloride test using Bresle-kid test equipment.

• Wet comb to check wet film thickness while paint application.

• Dry film thickness gauge.

• Prepare Final Report for Owner and Jotun Paint

5. Aurora Tankers – Jul 2003 ~ Jun 2004 as Coating Specialist ~ Malaysia office at IMC

Building, Kuala Lumpur / Inspection of vessels in Singapore, China, South Korea, Taiwan



Shipping Company having a fleet of 16 chemical tankers fully operational mainly Far East / Middle

East / USA. As a Coating Specialist my responsibility is primarily to monitor all cargo tank coating

conditions to meet present days commercial demands.



Scope of work:



? Follow-up with the monthly plan maintenance reports given by the vessel and carry

out timely inspections for temporary repairs prior docking. For this at times its

required to sail onboard and work along with the crew e.g Ballast voyage from

Korea via Singapore heading to middle east for cargo loading.



? During vessel docking, Inspect / evaluate existing coating condition for all cargo and ballast

tanks. Tanks in bad condition recommended for complete re-coating and others to be repaired as

required.



? Paint materials at jobsite checked for expiry date and quality for usage for the project.

To calculate surface area and ensure sufficient paint materials and thinners are available to

complete the job without any delay.

To follow-up surface inspections before all progress of work being carried out e.g erect staging,

fresh water washing, chloride check, grit blasting , vacuum cleaning, and during re-coating work.



? Additionally, to monitor heat curing operations for some special coatings for full curing. MEK

rub test carried out to assess surface condition upon completion of heat curing.



? Observe test applications of new paint materials used in the industry and follow up

with periodical inspections and reporting. The new coatings were assessed for

performance as to their resistance list given by the maker.

Carry out destructive test e.g Dolly pull test to assess strength of coating adhesion.

6. IMC Shipping Singapore 2001 ~ 2003 as Coating / Hull (Steel) Supervisor Inspect work progress on New-Build vessel at Oshima Shipyard, Japan & Dalian Shipyard, China.

Scope of work :

? Firstly, evaluate paint specifications submitted by Shipyard as recommended by Paint suppliers. Written Specification is to be in detail with all primary and secondary repairs for surface preparation, application methods and thickness, accepted atmospheric conditions, over coating intervals, coating compatibility, most of its well understood by the Yard Painting Head, Forman and painters.

? Attend Blasting and Coating Inspections, block stage on structures for the New-Build vessel. Inspections are thoroughly carried out together with paint technical representative. To ensure all surface preparation is as to paint specification/conduct Chloride Test ( Bresle kid ) on substrate prior paint application.

? Apart from coating also attend steel inspection eg. Check weld joints good finish with no weld slag remain, cracks, sharp edges, undercuts, blow holes and etc. All defects repaired as to specification and re-inspected prior painting.

? Carry out inspections on completion of each coating for good dry, required dry film thickness, pin-holes, dry spray, runs or sags and etc. also for good stripe coating. All repairs to be monitored and re-inspected prior follow up application.

? Upon good curing of coating conduct adhesion test (Destructive) such as Dolly pull test record results for Owner reference.

? Follow up guarantee Inspections and prepare repair methods / prepare reports for Owners.



7. Kansai Paint Singapore 1994 ~ 2001 Marine Coating Executive

Mainly attend docking inspections in Singapore, Malaysia, Philipines, U.A.E., India, Sri Lanka, South Korea, China & Vietnam.

? Attend Coating Inspections ( surface preparation and application)

? Liaise with Owner Rep./ Shipyard & Ship Staff for all coating work.

? To monitor work quality as to Specification and submit work report to Owners.

? Attached as trainer to Kansai Paint (HK) Office at Shanghai, to train Local China Inspectors.

? Structure Complete Re-Blasting to Sa 2.5 and Inspections.

? Application of Inorganic Zinc “ Carbozinc 11” by conventional spray.

? Structures fresh water washed to remove zinc salt prior intermediate coating.

? Finish coating application of polyurethane by airless spray.
