    operations of the Deck Department under Chief Officer’s direction. 

    • Preparing Passage Plans under master’s instruction.
    • The up keep and correction of nautical charts and related publications.
    • Recording data of on navigation, fairways, and port information.
    • Maintenance of firefighting and associated equipment.
    • Preparation of abstract logs.
    • To operate GMDSS equipment as assigned by Master.
    • Routine checks on navigation equipment and the maintenance of bridge
    equipment manuals and service records, maintained stocks of consumable and
    essential spares. He reports to the Master all defects relating to this equipment.
    • Understudying the Chief Officer and assisting in cargo and ballasting operations.

    Key Responsibilities Master heads the entire vessel
    • Full responsibilities are the safety of lives, pollution prevention, ship and cargo. In addition the overall responsibility for the entire operation of the vessel and in ensuring that the Officers of all departments efficiently discharge their duties.
    • Management of all departments onboard a ship
    • Manage the welfare, happiness and close co-operation of all members of the ship’s complement
    • Have the overriding authority and responsibility to make decisions with respect to safety, health,
    security and pollution
    • Prepare the ship and oversea during 3 party audits, oil major vettings and port state inspections
    • Implement the safety, health, security and environmental protection policies of the company

    • Carry out the Owner’s policy in accordance with the managers’ standing instructions relating to running a well
       organised, economically maintained and efficient vessel, and its safe navigation.
    • Assist Chief officer during periods of tank cleaning, loading, discharging and ballasting operations.
    • Ensures that all vessels’ certificates are valid and renewed as required.
    • Ensures that the vessel is properly manned with qualified personnel.
    • Ensures that safety equipment is in good order and well maintained.
    • Ensures that those who fill positions with fixed overtime put in a fair amount of work (deck and
    engine).
    • Ensures that all accidents and hazardous occurrences are investigated and reported to owners.
    • Reports to managers, without delay, incidents of operational/technical nature caused by the vessel,  onboard or
       ashore.
    • Has full operational understanding of all cargo related equipment.
    • Follows up the budgeting and ensures that the budgets are kept.
    • Ensures that narcotics and spirits are properly locked up in the Master’s custody.
    • Has the overall responsibility for the medical care.
    • Cares for general health and hygiene.
    • Ensures that the medications are properly dispensed and that records are kept of their dispensation.
    • Ensures that all key personnel are onboard at all times and are familiar with the content of their instructions.
    • Is responsible for the implementation of the Security Plan, Pollution Plan, Garbage Management plan
       as well as the Ballast Water Management Plan.
    • Arranges/follows-up weekly work planning meetings and weekly routine inspections according to instructions.
    • Ensures that the vessel’s logbooks are kept updated at all times, including Master’s night book.
    • Keeps himself aware of vessel’s draft, trim and stability conditions.
    • Is responsible for the issue of the Hot Work Permits in accordance with company’s policy.
    • Checks all safety equipment and leads the ‘Safety Team’.
    • Keeps himself informed of, and actively participate s in, planning, calculation and execution of navigation at all
       times.
    • Ensures that strict bridge routines are kept and that watch instructions are followed.
    • Actively participates when navigating with pilot an d ensures that pilot is well informed about the vessel’s
      manoeuvering capabilities.
    • In co-operation with the Senior Officers, ensures proper training, evaluation and reporting of all personnel
       qualifications in accordance with Company’s instruction(s) and present training programs.
    • Ensures that officers and crew wages accounts are properly maintained and distributes cash advances and wages
       to officers and crew.
    • Is responsible for maintaining the vessel’s Welfare account.
    • Ensures that all officers and crew members’ passports, seaman’s books and certificates are carefully checked for
       validity and safely kept, and are readily available in case of any inspection, until each crewmember’s discharge.
    • Is responsible for the safe operation of vessel’s communication system (GMDSS) and maintains records of
       monthly communication expenses accounts with updated communication prices and properly filed.
    • In co-ordination with the 2 Officer is responsible for briefing the office of the vessel’s daily noon position as well
       as AMVER reports whenever required
    • Is responsible for the proper familiarization and training of the crew.
    • Is responsible for signing on / off personnel and maintaining proper records of engagement / discharge
      of crew on the articles and for promptly updating the office accordingly.
    • Is generally responsible for supervising and offering overall assistance to officers and crew in the proper
       maintenance of all documentation and in all matters.
    • Is responsible for the conduct of Safety Committee Meeting where he acts as chairman. Furthermore the Master is
       overall responsible for the implementation of and compliance with the ship’s occupational safety and health policy
       and system as defined in the company’s Safety, Health Management and Environmental Protection procedure
       and the Health, Safety and Environmental manual.
    • Master must ensure that he will remain familiar with the principals of ocean/coastal navigation, watch keeping,
       handling and updating of charts, operation of navigational equipment, handling/maneuvering of the vessel,
      COLREGs, passage planning, navigational calculations, etc.
