• (Nov 05 – June 2007) Continuous cover for BP’s Cleeton & Ravenspurn Platforms – Southern North Sea. Normal medic duties plus Helicopter passenger and POB administration. Platform Safety induction, COSHH & HAV’s Coordinator. Assistance with incident investigations. STOP trainer. Coordinating specialist Occupational Health initiatives in areas such as Noise control.

Ad hoc cover to:

• Shell’s Brent Bravo, Petrofac Thistle A, BP Harding Platform – North Sea. Locum position, medic duties.

• Rowan Gorilla VII Platform & Judy Platform – North Sea. Normal medic duties, POB administration and platform induction. Initial planning for a health promotion programme.

Integrated Petroleum Services, Gabon. Evaluation of medical requirements & health promotion programme for a future project.



April 2002 – April 2005

In Salah Gas (BP/Sonatrach/Statoil) in Algeria. Remote construction site in Algeria. Normal ‘medic’ responsibilities.

• I have conducted audits to assess the working practices and standards of contractors and sub-contractors to ensure compliance with national, international and contractual obligations.

• Rigorous implementation of WHO standards in Food Safety.

• Train personnel from simple first aid to advanced trauma care.

• Instigation, preparation and evaluation of Emergency Exercises

• Preparing a plan to conduct Health Risk Assessments.

• Assisting HSE department in all aspects of safety management & systems.



May 2001 – March 2002

'Ramform Viking' a Petroleum Geo-Services (PGS) Survey ship operating worldwide. General medic role with extensive admin support to the PGS Party Chief and the ship's Master. As the ship's HSE co-ordinator, I designed and put in place:

• Job Safety Analysis and Safety plan to deal with Hydrogen Sulphide.

• Health Risk Assessment (HRA) of Environmental Factors, Noise Exposure & Local Medical Needs



March 2001 – May 2001

Land seismic site in Algeria, working for BHP. General medic role with support to the Radio Operator, Health and Safety co-ordinator and site manager.



June 2000 – February 2001

Atlantic Explorer' a PGS Survey ship operating in the Gulf of Suez and North Sea. General medic role with admin support to the PGS Party Chief. Whilst on board I designed, using PGS HSE guidelines, and implemented a TAG OUT system. Design of a Fitness Exercise Programme.



April 1999 -– May 2000

Instructor and Assessor. A member of Flag Officer Sea Training team, the internationally renowned training and assessment organisation of the Royal Navy.



August 1997 – April 1999

Practice Manager of the Royal Navy's largest Medical Centre in Scotland. Responsible for organising a General Practice, with 42 civilian and military staff. Initiation of EMIS into the Practise.



(Royal Naval Service from 1975) December 1994 – August 1997

Singleton medical practitioner on a RN warship with 280 ship's company. Planning, storing and controlling all aspects of the ship's Medical Department. Advice to the Commanding Officer of the implications of medical emergencies and the medical aspects of Health and Safety issues.

Organising, after the cessation of hostilities, the refurbishment of a medical facility for the care of displaced itinerant workers in Kuwait
