Duties included: Navigation, Piloting, Supervising the maintenance of the vessel and cargo ops; as well as, training of personnel. Have become proficient in NS5. Left due to vessel sold to scrap.

MASTER of the M/V APL BALBOA (a 10,488 DWT container vessel operating in the Middle Eastern trade mainly between Dubai, Jebel Ali, Kuwait, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan). Duties included: Navigation, Piloting, Supervising the maintenance of the vessel and cargo ops; as well as, training of personnel. Left to take over the “Gibson.”

MASTER of the M/V ADVANTAGE (a 25,000 DWT multi-purpose vessel operating mainly in the World Wide PL480 program). Duties included: Navigation, Piloting, Supervising the maintenance of the vessel and cargo ops; as well as, training of personnel. Fell out of rotation.

MASTER of the USNS SHUGHART (T-AKR-295) - A NASSCO converted LMSR previously stationed in the Arabian Gulf and Diego Garcia. Duties included: Bringing vessel through RAV, PSA, shakedowns and inspections, etc. I helped bring the ship through extensive USCG and MSC inspections to get vessel ready for MSC service in the Pre-Positioning Program. I helped set up the filing and computer systems to GOV’T standards, train crew in contractual concepts and helped set up payroll and maintenance programs. I am familiar with several of the GOV’T programs such as DTS, SAMM, NAVLOG, and other inventory and maintenance systems. I am proficient in MSOFFICE, EXCEL, ACCESS, and several other spreadsheet and word processing programs. I have attended class for S.O.R.T.S. & CASREP messages and am familiar with the U.S. GOV’T message system. I worked well with the MSC PM3, 4 & 5 personnel assigned to the program. Left due Bay Ship lost contract to non-union company.

MASTER of the M/V SUGAR ISLANDER (a 29,984 DWT Bulk Carrier). Duties included: Navigation, Piloting, Supervising the maintenance of the vessel; as well as, training of personnel. I was an active participant in writing vessel operating budgets, shipyard proposals and specs; and was a major contributor in instituting the “Shipboard/Shoreside Management Team” concept of operation. I was a senior participator in writing shipboard payroll programs, inventory programs and maintenance programs in dBase III, Access and FoxPro. I left this company due to the sale of the vessel (to a non-AMO Union company) for lack of cargo.
6/68-Present Since graduation from the Maine Maritime Academy in 1968, I have been Master and/or Mate on over 30 different steam or motor vessels of all types, both single and multi-engine (Multi-Purpose, LMSR’s, Bulk Carriers, RO-RO’s, Container Ships, Tankers, VLCC’s, Oil Field Supply Vessels, Tug Boats, Passenger and Excursion Vessels); also, helped breakout and activate several MARAD and MSC vessels for service.
