MARITIME EXPERIENCE:



F/V “Grace Egretta” – Alden Leeman, owner, 3/2002 - present



Year-round sternman on radar-equipped offshore lobster boat. Stand night navigational watches on trips to Cashes Ledge. Perform all physical labor related to lobstering. Assist captain in maintaining emergency preparedness. Give safety orientations to new crew.



T/S “State of Maine” – Maine Maritime Academy training cruise 2006



60-day trans-Atlantic voyage. Responsible, with physician, for medical care of crew and cadets. Participated in all drills and debriefed First Mate on medical drills. Provided recommendations to master, regarding improving medical readiness and prevention of injuries. Received informal training on the bridge, including orientation to the electronics.



F/V “Miss Betsy,” F/V “Tenacious,” F/V “All Set” – Wells family, 2000 – 2001



Sternman in shrimp, tuna and lobster fishery. Finish work on the Tenacious, including carpentry, fiberglassing, electrical and hydraulics.



NOAA SHIP “Mt. Mitchell” – U.S. Department of Commerce, 1982 -1983



Sole onboard medical provider on hydrographic survey ship with a complement of eighty officers and crew, aged 17 to 70. Triaged illnesses/injuries and treated according to protocols. Coordinated emergency evacuations. Liaison between ship and ports-of-call medical facilities, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Navy. Conducted shipboard preventative health programs including travel immunizations, malaria prophylaxis, shipboard pest control and food handling and sanitation inspections. Appointed by NOAA Atlantic Marine Center to assess medical readiness of Atlantic Fleet, including Gulf Coast fishery vessels. Enlisted volunteers from officers and crew to form a M.E.R.T. (Medical Emergency Response Team). Conducted emergency medical drills to test the efficacy of the MAS (Medical Advice at Sea).



CREW BOAT “Oriole,” JACK-UP BARGE “Jay Robertson” – Seabook Nuclear Power Station construction site, Morrison-Knudsen Co. 1978 - 1979



Sole night shift medical provider to 300 underground construction workers, both land and marine. Completed training and certification as a Nationally Registered E.M.T. Accompanied hard-hat divers for in-water cold water survival training. Obtained Advanced Open Water Diver certification. Provided medical care on-site to crew boat, helicopter and jack-up barge crew.



R/V “Quest” - Piscataqua Marine Laboratory, Normandeau Associates, 1977 - 1978



Deckhand on small research boats. Otter trawls, gillnetting, plankton tows. Diver tender
