Experience


Apeejay Shipping Limited, India 1992 to 2007



Apeejay is one of the largest private shipping companies in India. The company owns and operates a fleet of Bulk Carriers with full in-house management of vessels.



o Joined the company as a Deck cadet in 1992 and was promoted to the rank of Master in 2003. A detailed sailing record can be provided upon request.

o Master Mariner with more than 15 years dry cargo experience offering a high level of hands-on services, including planning, leadership, and problem solving for global clientele with stringent demands.



o Experience in taking over and handing over second hand vessels, change of vessels registry, class and all surveys associated with it.



o Planned and implemented ISM code requirements on various vessels and carried out various internal and external audits by class and flag states.



o Planned and implemented ISPS code requirements on vessels and carried out initial ship security assessment of ships and various external and internal audits.



o Carried out major dry docking, repairs of vessels both as Chief Officer and as Master.



o Overall in-charge of safety of vessel, personnel, navigation and cargo operations, and Ensured vessel's readiness to Charter Party Terms & Conditions.



o Ensured vessel's readiness to inspections for Port State Control, Flag State Control and Class by complying with IMO legislation and regulations required by SOLAS, MARPOL, Collision regulations, ILO, AMSA Marine orders, Occupational Health Safety and Environment.



o Planned and implemented Safety Management and Environmental Protection Systems on board in full compliance with ISM.



o Coordinated with office chartering, technical, crewing, agents, contractors, customs, immigration, quarantine terminal representatives, and visitors.



o Prepared officers and crew account of wages and managed ship's mess committee and ensured a harmonious and safe working environment for ship's crew

Have passed the Professional Qualifying Examination for membership of Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, UK (MICS) in August’2007 with Distinction and applied for Membership.

o Sailed on Handymax Bulk carriers (St.Lawrence type built) as Second officer and Chief Officer mostly in Great lakes and cross Atlantic voyages carrying steel products and grain. Extensive experience attained in steel products stowage and identification of pre-shipment damage and appropriate notations on mate’s receipts and bills of lading.



o Sailed on Panamax bulk carriers as Chief Officer and Master on worldwide tramp carrying various kinds of bulk cargoes.



o Sailed as Observer (Owners representative) on second hand vessels acquired and carried out change of registration of vessel, change of classification, various surveys associated including implementation of ISM and ISPS code requirements.



o As Master planned and carried out dry-dockings of vessels some of which involved huge steel renewals and implementation of new IACS/URS rules and regulations such as Dewatering/water ingress alarm systems, SVDR, making vessels compliant with SECA regulations and drawing up on board procedures.
