Master Mariner, Loading Master, Pilot

Objective


I would like to work as a part time contract safety / marine operations consultant to Shipping Company / Marine Terminal providing technical support in all aspects of marine transportation operations.


Experience


October 2000 to Present:

Chevron Shipping Co., San Ramon, CA

I am currently serving as a Mooring Master for the El Segundo Marine Terminal. I pilot vessels into and out of the terminal which consists of 2 CBMs (conventional buoy moorings) located in Santa Monica Bay California off the Chevron El Segundo refinery. Once moored I act as terminal representative while the vessel is in the berth insuring all state federal, and terminal regulations are complied with.



June 1991 to October 2000

Canal Barge Co. Inc. New Orleans, LA

My position was Chief Mate/Relief Master aboard two 6833 ton molten sulphur DP capable tankships. The vessels loaded at an offshore facility and discharged at a facility in the Lower Mississippi River. I was in charge of a navigational watch and did all of the shiphandling and piloting that fell on my watch. My duties included planning and supervising all cargo operations, performing stability and trim calculations, planning and supervising all deck maintenance, ordering supplies and budgeting for deck department, writing shipyard specs. I joined the vessels while they were still under construction and was involved in Sea Trials and the commissioning of vessels and systems. I worked closely with the other master in developing, writing and implementing all operational guidelines and procedures.



December 1990 to June 1991:

American Trading and Transportation New York, New York

My position was Third Mate. I served on tankers in coastal as well as foreign trade.



April 1982 – December 1990:

I served as Master on Anchor Handling Tug/OSV’s, as well as Emergency Response Vessels. I worked mostly overseas and delivered vessels from the states to overseas operations. I was also involved in a lot of pre-drydock planning budgeting and supervising vessels through drydockings. I commissioned several new vessels during this time.

Graduated from Maine Maritime Academy with a BS in Nautical Science in 1982
