Detailed description work experience
A) Managing Director of a cement import and bagging plant in Lagos-Nigeria
Overall responsible for the incoming and outgoing logistics of 450.000 to 600.000 tons of cement on an annual base.
a) General Manager Marine Service Company
January 1st.2010 until present
Overall responsibility for the daily movements of the complete company, replacing the MD (Owner) during his absence.
Managing a total of around 60 local FTE’s and around 5 Expatriate FTE’s.
Responsible for costs declarations.
Responsible for budgets.
Responsible for HR.
Responsible for invoicing.
Reporting to the MD.
b) Manager Service Nigeria :
October 1st.2008 until December 31st.2009
Overall responsibility for the service given to the main power-plants of big multinationals in Nigeria, around 40 generating sets (in between 1200 -2000 KVa each).
Managing a total of around 30 local FTE’s and around 10 Expatriate FTE’s.
Responsible for costs declarations.
Responsible for budgets.

Indirect responsible for invoicing.
Reporting to the Manager Service International, holding office in the Netherlands.
c) General Manager :
February 1st.2007 until July 31st.2008
Overall responsible for service given to users of the port of Lagos, incoming national and international vessels.
Set up of a new office & department from zero, to an office with 10 - FTE’s and around 130 – FTE’s on the fleet
Overall responsible for the total maintenance of 14 units, tugs (6), pilot cutters (4), launches (4), including : technical & nautical maintenance, total consumables supply to the units, including the purchasing, total classification issues and the day to day maintenance.
Overall responsible for weekly, monthly and yearly budgets.
Managing around 120 local FTE’s and around 27 expatriate FTE’s.
Responsible for the direct contacts with the customer Nigerian Port Authorities.
Reporting to the MD at Abudja and the direct representative of the owner at Switserland.
d) Works Manager :
May 1st. 2006 until December 31st.2006
Project : transport of rock, by tugs with barges from RAK to offshore Dubai.
Responsible for the safe-working of tug-boat captains and crews.
Responsible for the control on materials in general, tugs, barges, towing materials, use of PPE, checks on validity of certification, checks on consuming of fuel.
Responsible for the social contacts with tugboat captains & engineers.
Be the spokes-man in between the captains & engineers on board the tugs and the project manager on shore regarding all sorts of small and bigger problems.
Reporting to the project manager on shore in Dubai.
e) Contract / General Manager :
October 2004 until February 2006
Same tasks as “b)”, only in the port of Hazira in Gujurat – India.
Also did the new set-up of an office from zero, to an office with 4 – FTE’s and around 50 – FTE’s manning the fleet of five (5) units, four (4) tugs and one (1) pilot-cutter/mooring launch.
f) Tow Supervisor / Master
Approximately over a year period – 2003 until October 2004
As intermediate Master-Mariner on towing projects for a big Dutch broker.
Responsibilities;
Advising the (mostly) foreign tug-boat masters during the voyage on all sorts of issues regarding the towing of big objects, barges etc.
Direct and daily contact with the brokers-representatives, by e-mail and phone, reporting of position, fuel consumptions, weather actual and forecast, status of towing materials, and tow, etc.etc.
Full reporting and briefing at the brokers office at the end of each voyage.
g) Master / Captain
Several periods – 1996 until 2003
Responsibilities:
As a captain on board of a vessel you have the overall responsibility for crew, vessel hull & machinery and cargo and/or tow.
The vessels I did work on have been various from small work-vessels with a length of 18 meter until cargo vessels with a length of 120 meter as well as small harbour tugs until big ocean going tugs of over a 100 meter in length with 26.000 BHP.
h) Barge Engineer
15 monts period – 1995 until 1996
Off-Shore barge-engineer on the “Nedrill-6”(Semi-Submersible) and the “Nedrill-9”(Jack-Up)
Responsibilities:
On a drilling rig there is a three (3) man management team.
These are the OIM, Offshore Installation Manager, the Tool-pusher and the Barge-engineer.
OIM is overall responsible, Tool-pusher is responsible for the drilling.
Barge-engineer is responsible for, safety, crewing, machineries, catering, communication, maintenance of hull, machinery, cranes, lifting materials, off-loading and loading of consumables (supply-vessels), store-keeping, stability of the platform, embarking and disembarking of crew and 3rd.party workers, helicopters, safety and refueling of the helicopters, accommodation of the workers.
Reporting to the OIM and direct to the on-shore rig manager.
i) Ship Owner / Manager
1990 – 1995
Started our (my wife and me) own company with the support of one of the big ship-owners from the North of The Netherlands, owned first one (1) then two (2) vessel, sold the first and bought the third (3) vessel.
Apart from the cargo (contracting) we did everything our selves, HR / Insurance / Int.Safety systems / Full maintenance, hull and machinery / Dry-docking / Arranging of parts, consumables and food supplies / Relieved the Captains on a regular base / Administration, including checks on the supporting company their admin. / Regular contacts with the supporting company.
