Master Mariner

Objective


Any job where I can use my 16 years of sailing experience and knowledge gained from this post graduate course, LLM in Maritime Law, for the benefit of the organisation. I am willing to relocate.


Experience


July 2007 –

• Presently, working as Assistant to the Director of Fayette Shipping, UK on a temporary basis.



Mar 2006 – Sep 2006 Master

• Excellent experience of working on this ship, very challenging.

• Ran the ship in the most economical way as safely possible and at the same time maintained a high standard.

• Effective liaison with all parties, the owners, charterers and agents to have a smooth operation with no cargo claims.

• With excellent support of my crew, all surveys and audits were successful during my tenure.



Feb 2000 - Feb 2006 Chief Officer

• Worked on oil tankers and OBOs carrying various grades of fuel oil, crude oil, white petroleum products, heated cargoes like LSWR and LSHS, bulk cargoes like iron ore and coal.

• Due to the trust in me, I was sent to take over three ships.

• Have been involved in lay ups and extensive repair jobs.

• Having worked with good names like Acomarit, V Ships and Mitsui, have picked up good administrational skills.

• Working on old ships required hard work. This taught me how to work under pressure effectively and how to extract work from the subordinates while maintaining a happy atmosphere at the same time.



Jan 1997 - Jan 2000 Second Officer

• Have worked as Safety Officer.

• Was involved in setting up a new software based shipboard management system which highly improved my computer skills and the job was much commended by the company.



May 1995 - Dec 1996 Third Officer

• Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the ship’s life saving and fire fighting appliances.

• Interacted with a number of surveyors and vetting inspectors.

• Set up, organized and managed training sessions for crew.



May 1994 - Apr 1995 Fourth Officer

• During this training period, was trusted with independent cargo and navigational watches by the chief officer.



Aug 1991 - Apr 1994 Deck Cadet

• Cadetship mainly involved working in a supporting role. This taught me to have control over my instincts and taught me team work.

2006-2007 LLM in Maritime Law with merit in all subjects (Marine Insurance, International Trade and Carriage of goods by Sea)



2003 Master Mariner (Mercantile Marine) from MCA Southampton



1998-1999 HND (Higher National Diploma) Nautical Science with Merit / Distinction



1993 Was the first in my batch to clear my Second Mates



1990 AISSCE (All India Senior Secondary Certificate Examination) from

Don Bosco School (one of the most reputed English Medium schools in India)

With Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English and Engineering Drawing.


Certification


All STCW certificates and other in-house quality and ISM courses.


Skils


IT

• Competent in all Microsoft Office packages including excel, word, outlook express and power point. Regularly used for academic and work projects.

• Have excellent knowledge of operating communication equipments like satellite telex, email, etc.



LANGUAGES

• Fluent in English, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu.

• Presently learning Spanish and Bengali.



EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION

• Strong negotiation skills developed during lay ups of vessels during repair and dry docking.

• Presentation skills and confidence demonstrated during the delivery of ship board training.

• During the past sixteen years at sea, have had the opportunity to work and interacted with many nationalities like Indian, Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Filipino, Burmese, Korean, Chinese, Croatian, Yugoslavian, American, Canadian, Brazilian, Chilean, Japanese, Spanish which has taught me of their various behavioral traits.



INITIATIVE

• My employers have always appreciated my ability to see opportunities and to set and achieve goals.

• Running costs like communication, stores, etc were cut down to less than half during my tenure on my last vessel.

• House Captain of the Volleyball team in School.

• Presently, Post Graduate Representative at the Law Society in Southampton University.

• Swimming, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Cricket, Spa, Horse Riding and Golf.
