Experience
GERENAL:
I was born on 02 April 1958 in Kalka, Haryana. I passed out from Sainik School (Military School) Rewa after completing my Higher Secondary certificate in 1975. I have completed B.Sc studies from Kurukshetra University in 1978.. However I personally feel that one should always keep on educating oneself. With this as my aim, I am presently pursuing MBA (Shipping Management) course from one of the most reputed and top grade Indian University.
I joined sea as a cadet in 1979 as a direct entry. Thereafter served onboard various merchant ships mainly cargo ships and bulk carriers. The time spent at sea kept on adding its shine of experience on my sailing armour.
PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION:
On professional front I am holding Master’s (Foreign Going) competency certificate. I also hold valid GMDSS operator’s license and completed my ISPS course as part of my competency requirements. To enhance my knowledge of ship management, I have completed a diploma course in Shipping Management from Narrotam Morarji Institute of Shipping, Mumbai in 2000. To make myself thorough in shipping commercial management, I passed the Membership Examinations of Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, UK in August 2007. I am also a member of Nautical Institute, UK and on mailing list of ABS.
I am a qualified ISM auditor and did a course conducted by ABS in 1998. I am fully at home in use of computers and have even completed a short course in Computer Hardware engineering.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
I have been sailing as a shipmaster since 1996 and have commanded mostly bulk carriers and general cargo ships. Although I did have an opportunity to command Ro-Ro ship, OSV and a tanker. In 1996 I did extensive sailings for bringing ships for demolition to Alang. The responsibilities involved taking over of ships, preparing and conduct of surveys and preparation of documents prior sailing for demolition yard.
Since 1998, I have been sailing in the main fleet ships. The ship size varied from 500 grt to about 40000 grt. In 1998, I also did a short stint as an instructor in a reputed marine academy. I was officer in charge of PSSR and PSC courses. As the academy was newly established, I also had an opportunity to involve myself in the processes/documentation of its accreditation.
The last ship was a bulk carrier, an old lady of 1984 built (signed off on 29 Mar 2009). The ship was prepared for PSC inspection for Mediterranean, Black sea and Paris MOU port state from almost scratch as it was taken over from Vietnam principals. Inhouse ISM and ISPS audits were planned and conducted, all major ISM elements were audited, the documentations were put in right perspective and order, the decks, engine room, navigation bridge and accommodation areas were prepared for inspections.
The command of bulk carriers and general cargo ships have enriched my experience in working and understanding of various shipping management techniques, charter party clauses and other chartering mechanisms. During my command of dry bulk carriers, I have handled almost all kinds of dry cargoes which are being transported in the world today.
The time spent as master onboard ships have also given me ample opportunities to conduct ship inspections, preparing the ships for various vetting inspections (for bulk carriers – The Right ship vetting), annual and special surveys of safety equipments, radio surveys, load line, class and other statutory surveys under various classification societies like ABS, Lloyds, Rina, IRS, NKK . The experience also includes inspection of ships for take overs, preparing the vessels for initial surveys, ISM audits and ISPS audits. It will pertinent to mention that these inspections also included conduct of flag state annual inspections, P&I condition surveys, the chaterer’s pre-delivery surveys. These inspections, surveys and audits have enriched my practical experience in terms of understanding of requirements and rudiments of audits and inspections and its documentation. I have actively involved myself with my company’s safety & quality department in suggesting changes and up gradations of various SMS forms. I have actively shared my experiences with my office to streamline the SMS documentations.
I feel that with my experience as a master for last so many years have also taught me to judge and evaluate the officers and crew working under me. The experience includes critical appraisal of their performance, the check on professional qualifications, requisite documentations, rest hours documentation & preparation of appraisal reports. In a recent case I was able to detect a fraud by a junior officer, in that he managed to falsify all the entries in his seamanbook in order to seek employment in our organization.
I have good experience in ship’s dry dockings preparations for dry docking, conduct of deck gaugings evaluation of gauging reports and preparations of dry dock specs & special surveys.
I am also at home in preparing incident reports and investigation reports. Due to experience on quiet a few old ships, I had my share of emergencies. The safe management of emergencies, proper record of events and other documentation is part and parcel of today’s master’s responsibilities, which I did to best of my knowledge.
As I am quiet conversant with computers, I do not have any difficulty in working with computer based templates, data sorting/management or any other application software based programs.
PERSONAL TRAITS:
On the personal front I am a teetotaler and a non smoker. I am in good health and can handle work related stress. I possess a valid passport and seaman book & all STCW certificates. I have no qualms regarding extensive traveling.
If the organization is looking for a professional with right qualification, a loyal worker and a achiever then I will make a perfect choice.
Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time to clarify any information given above. I will produce all original testimonials as & when requested.
