2006 – Present NYCDOT Staten Island Ferry Staten Island, NY

Mate

? Serving as Mate on Staten Island Ferry with responsibilities which include coordinating arrangements to ensure safety of passenger transfer operations, continuous rounds within ferry passenger spaces, and safe mooring operations. Other responsibilities include assisting with implementation of emergency preparedness arrangements including performing inspections of firefighting and lifesaving equipment, serving as first aid responder for passengers and crewmembers, and serving as on-scene leader during the response to emergency stations.

? Duties include providing effective leadership, commitment and involvement to implement ferry operations procedures. Serve as Above-Deck Team Leader and ensure effective coordination with other ferry teams. Coordinate crew relief in accordance with procedures and in cooperation with the Captain and Chief Marine Engineer. Assist the Captain as directed during ferry start-up and shutdown to ensure a visual inspection of firefighting and lifesaving equipment and assist with fuel oil transfer operations as directed by the Captain and Person-in-Charge to ensure that the safety of the vessel is maintained throughout the entire operation. Comply with ISM Codes and the Safety Management System of the Staten Island Ferry regulations.



1999 – 2006 N.Y. Waterway Weehawken, NJ

Captain

? Serving as Master on Passenger Ferry’s for one of the nations largest privately owned ferry companies. Responsibilities include daily operation and transportation of up to 3,000 passengers in the NY Harbor area. Provide effective leadership, commitment and involvement to implement ferry operations procedures. Ensuring the safety of passengers and crewmembers through compliance with management system procedures and USCG regulations onboard. I am directly responsible for the safe navigation of the vessel and shall guide the actions of the crewmembers in making decisions that are based on sound information. Duties include monthly drills, crew training, vessel preventative maintenance and Coast Guard Inspections. Assisting with fuel oil transfer operations to ensure that the safety of the vessel is maintained throughout the entire operation. Assist with risk assessment as requested by Safety & Security personnel. Other special areas include knowledge on Hamilton / Kamewa / Bird Johnson jet propulsion systems. Main Engine and Generator preventative maintenance, which includes oil changes, fuel filter changes, air filters, water pump impellers, and trouble shooting any other problems that might occur during normal vessel operations.
