Master 1600 Oceans, Master Towing Oceans

Objective


To serve with excellence as Master taking advantage of my operating experience aboard Towing vessels. I desire stable employment with benefits to support my family while I serve my employer to the best of my abilities.

Currently hold a Master 1600 GT/3000 ITC Oceans and Master of Towing Oceans, Fully STCW certified, Passport and Able Bodied Seaman, Tankerman PIC, MMD. Hazwopper Certified, Certified Diver.

I have significant experience towing petroleum barges and tandem towing experience of non petroleum products.

Now preparing for First Class Pilots license for Columbia River and Portland Harbor.


Experience


October, 2003–Present Sea Coast Transportation

Master

• Mainly on the Pacific Avenger 4,000 hp 199 GT, and Barge Pacific 80,000 barrel petroleum barge but fill in on several other boats/barges as well.

• Operations include transportation of bulk petroleum barges on U.S. West Coast, Alaska, Canadian and Mexican waters.



July 03 – October 03 Campbell Towing

Chief Mate

• Currently serving on tug Lynne towing tandem barges from Wrangell, Alaska to Chamainus, Canada and Everett/Seattle and Tacoma, WA

After returning from mission field this was my entry back into Maritime Workplace and I enjoyed this work at Campbell Towing very much but the work was sporadic and the company was not able to provide medical benefits for me and my family, which are important to us.

1996 – April 2003 Campus Crusade for Christ serving at FamilyLife

Missionary

• Served as a missionary helping couples put their marriages back together when they found themselves on the verge of divorce. This was a four year commitment that turned into seven years total service.

• Planned/managed major events from start to finish for parenting, marriage, and training conferences serving up to 3000 people.

• In addition to the specific conferences that I served as Senior Planner, also trained other planners in A/V use, forms use and handled logistics for all of our 130+ events each year all over the U.S.

• Served as Equipment Manager replacing outdated equipment with new state of art mixers, projectors, microphones, lighting etc. Updated all audio video sources from cassette tape and VHS to DVD presentations.

• Served as Forms Manager for Conference Department and trained 14+ other planners on use of merge documents with automated macros, conditional statements, if/then/else statements etc. with MS Word and MS Excel on well over 200 documents/sheets in constant flux.

• Received extensive power user training for Word and Excel. Proficient with Outlook, Access, PhotoDraw, PowerPoint, and FrontPage.

1992 – 1996 Columbia River Sand & Gravel / Aphis Ready Mix

Captain

• Tended a dredging operation for Sand and Gravel used by same owners of Aphis Ready Mix, Drove dump truck and operated tug as needed for each.

• Pushed a suction dredge on the Columbia and Willamette Rivers in the Portland, Oregon area.

• Oversaw the loading and offloading operations.

• Owners were major supporters of our missions work until they sold the company.

1989 – 1992 Knappton Maritime Corp. Seattle, WA

Captain/Mate

• Operated towboats towing barges (singles and tandems) in waters as far south as Monterey Bay along coastal waters of the Pacific through Canadian waters, throughout Southeast Alaskan waters and various ports in Gulf of Alaska. Operated in various bays, including San Francisco, Monterey, Puget Sound, Grays Harbor, Columbia and Snake Rivers.

• Extensive experience towing tandem barges in multitude of types, self dumping log, petroleum, chip, container, and rail barges, lash barge tow’s, ship assist work, dredge tending etc.

• Was one of the many captains serving on the Valdez oil spill operation in Prince William Sound, tending barges for the cleanup efforts. My tug also served as a supply vessel, providing fuel and water for the many fishing vessels contracted to Exxon assisting in the cleanup efforts.



1988 – 1989 Executive Explorer Seattle, WA

Chief Mate

Served as relief cruise ship operator in Alaska waters, inside passage and Columbia/Snake rivers.



1986 – 1988 Ken Rea Trucking Vancouver, WA

Owner/Operator

• Business owner/operator of single semi-truck operation.

1985 – 1986 McAmis Industries Marysville, CA

Captain

• Operated tugboat on Columbia and Snake Rivers, hard rock dredging operation on Snake River below Ice Harbor Dam in Washington State, until contract job was finished.

March – September-1985 Foss Alaska Lines Seattle, WA

Captain/Chief Mate

• Mate of towboats from Seattle, WA to Southeast Alaska ports towing—single and tandem—freight, container, petroleum, and rail barges until company sold to Lynden Transportation and I was then laid off.

• Captain of ship assist tug, Edith Foss, on Columbia River when Foss made their debut into the Columbia River and desired an operator with local knowledge of Columbia River waters.

1984 – 1985 Port of Cascade Locks Cascade Locks, OR

Captain

• Captain of Sternwheeler Columbia Gorge, on Columbia and Willamette rivers.

1982 – 1984 Campbell Towing Company Wrangell, AK

Chief Mate

• Operated towboats on waters of, Gulf of Alaska, Southeast Alaska and inside passage to Seattle.

1979 – 1982 Shaver Transportation Company Portland, OR

Deckhand

• Deckhand on towboats and push-boats on Columbia, Willamette and Snake rivers.



NOTE: Some positions overlapped dates of duration of employment due to the nature of the maritime industry and seasonal effects of weather in the Gulf of Alaska.

Marine Technology Clatsop College Astoria, OR

• Major Marine Technology courses towards career goals

• Emergency Medical Technician I and CPR, various Firefighting classes, schools and seminars.

• Marine Technology major credited towards Clatsop High School Diploma, graduated June 1979.
