Maritime Security Director

Objective


I am seeking a challenging position within cruise line or container ship company as a security officer.


Experience


Mr. Gorsline is a twenty year US Navy Special Operations veteran with a wide array of training and operational experience in Maritime Security Operations. He has worked as close personal protection for high level VIPs conducting surveillance and counter surveillance training and operations for various US Government Agencies. He has testified before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Government Reform, Subcommittee on National Security, Emerging Threats and International Relations on the topic of International Maritime Security as it relates to Cruise Ships and terminal operations as an expert witness for the government. Additionally, SOS has carried out ship security vulnerability assessments in accordance with ISPS and MTSA regulations writing ship security plans for several passenger cruise line and container shipping companies.



Mr. Gorsline has provided training to Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Hampton, Portsmouth and Newport News Police departments on Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) operations for SWAT teams in the event a ship is taken over. He has also assisted in the training of Maryland’s Calvert County Sheriff’s SWAT Team in support of the Cove Point LNG Platform.



During his naval career he has worked as a Deep Sea Salvage Diver and was a member of the U.S. Navy SEAL Teams. He is a graduate of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) Force Protection and Anti-Terrorism program. He has conducted surveys on over 50 facilities and 30 ships in the commercial arena in the last three years. He is also a member of the Maritime Security Council and has advised the International Council of Cruise Lines (ICCL) on security issues. Mr. Gorsline is qualified and certified through the Maritime Institute of Technology & Graduate Studies (MITAGS), as a Company, Port and Ship Security Officer. Additionally, he is State of Virginia, Department of Criminal Justice Service (DCJS) certified Private Security Services Technician for Secure Ocean Service.

From February 2005 to Present:

Mr. Gorsline conducts vulnerability assessments for ships, ports, and harbors and develops security plans for Norwegian Cruise Lines as a special security consultant. He has also conducted Ship Surveys for NYK Shipping and worked in the Port of Virginia, and all Ports servicing NCL ships. Mr. Gorsline testified before the House Subcommittee on Cruise Ship Security and provided security analysis on proposed siting of Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) terminals in Rhode Island and Massachusetts for the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office. Mr. Gorsline also provides Maritime Security Consulting services for Nova Chemicals and Blackwater Security inc.

December 2002 to February 2005 Hampton Roads Business Development: Mr. Gorsline was the Project Manger and Security Systems Surveyor for Port of Virginia CCTV video motion detection system. He was also the Project Manger for Naval Special Warfare Dangerous Goods Transportation program on NAB Little Creek, Norfolk VA.

August 2001 thru December 2002: Mr. Gorsline was hired as a Surveillance Detection Instructor as part of Diplomatic Security contract working for International Training Inc. Mr. Gorsline was a surveillance detection instructor training host nation nationals in the art of finding and identifying persons conducting surveillance in preparation to carryout acts of aggression against US Diplomatic Corps personnel and US facilities overseas. Mr. Gorsline has deployed to 23 countries mainly in Eastern Europe, Africa, Middle East and Caribbean. Mr. Gorsline was also a special effects contractor for New Dominion Pictures. Effects were achieved using explosives and pyrotechnics.

September 2000 to August 2002: Part Time On Call (PTOC) for Cubic Applications Inc. Mr. Gorsline was a computer terminal operator for the Joint Theater Level Simulation (JTLS) system. He was a controller in the Joint Collation Special Operations Cell at Joint War-fighters Center in Suffolk VA. He provided support to many different exercises to include the preparation for the invasion of Iraq.

From September of 1997 to September 2000: Mr. Gorsline was the main NSW support contractor for PMS 395 A2. His labor task was to qualify and certified ordnance and weapons mission packages for loading and storage onboard submarines conducting various SOF operations to include DDS and ASDS. He was the field office manager and office security officer for the Norfolk, VA., office. He was responsible for the office operating budget, hiring personnel and clearing personnel per NISPOM directives. Additionally, He supported clients at Norfolk Naval Shipyard during the Submarine Factory 688 and 688I overhauls.
