Merchant Mariner – Member of Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association (MEBA)



Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL)/NCL America

General responsibilities include: management of shipboard operations, the navigation of the vessel, and ensuring passenger and crew safety procedures are in compliance with the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) standards.



M/S Pride of Aloha-2nd Officer

-Developed and implemented a 12-week training course for crewmembers responsible for passenger safety in lifeboats.



-Conducted additional training in safety, crowd and crisis management, and leadership for crewmembers in training course.



-Certified crewmembers in lifeboat handling proficiency.



-Responsible for all maintenance, procurement and inventory management of all shipboard safety-related items as required by the USCG and IMO.



-Responsible for all training of crew and passengers on all safety issues.



M/S Pride Of Aloha-3rd Officer



-Part of inaugural crew for the new NCL brand, NCL America, crewing the first U.S flagged cruise ship in several years.



3rd Officer-Navigation-dealing with all shipboard navigational equipment.



M/S Norwegian Sky-2nd Officer



-Led a multicultural crew comprised of 61 different nationalities in the Caribbean market.



-Part of a team that immersed American crewmembers into the multinational crew, while preparing the crew for the new Hawaiian market.



-Integral part of an intensive training program designed to prepare the US-crewed ship for the rigorous regulations the USCG implements on US flagged vessels.



Military



2003-Present

Lieutenant, Junior Grade, US Navy Reserve



-Active Duty Training assignments performed with Military Sealift Command (West Coast) and the Maritime Administration (Western Region).



-Coordinated with several government agencies on a weekly basis the movement of naval ships and personnel

Attended leadership training sessions during post-commissioning indoctrination courses.



-Recipient of Merchant Marine Expeditionary Award for service in a combat zone during Operation Enduring Freedom.



Internships



2001-2002

US Army Transportation Corps-Logistics Integration Agency (USALIA)

Alexandria, VA



-Worked under the US Army Transportation Command (TRANSCOM) as a co-op student.



-Worked in LIA’s Power Projection division, tasked to help the US Army accomplish goals of a lighter, more mobile Army as seen through Army Transformation 2020.



-Used logistics and maritime background to help counterparts understand the ties between the Army and the private sector within the Merchant Marine.



-Visited several US Army installations to view current projects in trial phases.



2000, 2001-2003

-As a cadet apprentice on containerships and oil tankers that sailed to Europe and the Far East, calling ports in 10 countries and all 3 U.S. coastlines.
