Education & Work Experience

– Graduated Modesto Junior College with an AA degree in Industrial Arts.

– Graduated San Francisco State College with an AB degree in Industrial Arts & Vocational Education.

– Obtained a general secondary teaching credential from SFSC, & went to work teaching Industrial Art (metal shop) & Vocational Education at John Swett High School, Crockett, CA.

– Obtained a Masters degree in Industrial Arts & Vocational Education from SFSC. Started work for Pacific Drydock (A Crowley organization) as an outside machinist lead man for the night shift, as needed, for the next 5 years. Started teaching at Castlemont High School for the next 6 years.

– Founded American Navigation Inc. (around an ex-Navy YTL 65’ Nave hull). I repowered the tug from 350 HP to 1000HP. At the time, the most popular ship assist tug on San Francisco bay. We averaged 100 ship assists per month with this boat.

– Bought an 85’ ex-Army DPC hull & repowered it from 700 HP to 4000 HP. Added a kort nozzle with flanking rudders. At the time, this ship assist tug was not only the most powerful but also the most popular tug docking ships on San Francisco bay.

- Received my first Captains license & my first Engineers license from the US Coast Guard.

– Founded & operated Richmond Drydock Company. Built my first floating drydock out of a World War II oil tanker hull.

– Performed my 5000th ship assist job.

– Moved American Navigation to Richmond, CA & combined both my companies under the same roof. For the next 10 years I developed American Navigation (by hiring the right people) into a super ship assist company that operated 10 ship assist tugs offering higher horse power than our competitors. The majority of our tugs were powered by (2) 16 cylinder EMD 645 E 7’s. Am Nav assisted around 20%-30% of all the ships that entered SF bay. Also during this time period, Richmond Drydock Co. came into its own. The first purpose of the company was to build up & maintain Am Nav’s tug fleet. Secondly, this allowed me to take on other interesting work in the salvage & construction business. Plus, repowering vessels for the army that operated out of Rough & Ready Island & vessels used by the navy in the Suisun Mothball Fleet. I worked with Great Lake Dredging Company & Peter Kewit & Sons, Manson General, General Construction of Seattle, to list a few, on various offshore projects & experiments. We also performed special services for the state ferry department, the spill spoilers (oil recovery vessels), & a host of other activities related to the marine industry. We kept very busy & always doing something interesting, innovative, & different.

– Sold American Navigation to Foss Tug & Barge of Seattle.

– Sold Richmond Drydock to Marex SA, in Guatemala. I went there with the drydock equipment & worked with owners of Marex in setting up a shipyard company, & teaching them how to operate one. Together we repowered some vessels for their navy, & built a few barges. We also put together a floating crane together with a heavy four-point anchoring system, & reformed various salvage & construction jobs.

– I bought a 200’ x 40’ 8000 HP AHSB from Tidewater of Louisiana.

– Founded Pacific Logistics Company around the Tidewater AHSB which was renamed Megaton. I personally operated the vessel & we did salvage work, towing, & also maintenance work for the various oil companies around Central & South America. Related to maintenance of heavy anchoring systems & the replacement & change out of large chain sections. Also performed construction projects throughout the area.

– Sold the Megaton & returned to the States. I have been living here in San Bruno, trying to retire but I do not like it, that is why I’m sending out this resume.
