Skils

As Administrations Officer in the Naval College, gained further experience in dealing with outside agencies when planning and organizing overseas training for Naval Service Personnel and have operated various accounts that required Budgetary Control and input. As Recruit Training Officer, I was directly responsible for the training and development of a class of recruits. I found this role very challenging but rewarding where I had to ensure a minimum standard of training and supervision was achieved at all times. This involved in providing Naval Service operations training, Seamanship Training, Gunnery Training and Navigation/Flight Ops/ in the Line Training School.

My role as Officer Commanding the Naval Service Reserve is another position where I have obtained further experience. I was directly responsible for the training and safety of all reserves within the units and for the planning of all professional training that they receive. This role also requires the operation of various accounts such as ordnance accountancy, Unit Fund accounts and Pay accounts.

All of the above have helped me to develop skills as a planner, organizer, administrator, communicator and enhanced my leadership skills. Also, on a practical level, I have been involved in a number of real life Maritime scenarios such as Search and Rescue, Maritime Safety Operation, Diving Operations, Pollution Control, Fishery Protection and Drug Interdiction.

As an Operations Officer in the Naval Service, I have been tasked with the conduct of many operations afloat and ashore by the Naval Service including the operations of Naval Service ships. With further experience in commercial shipping, I feel that I have the necessary attributes to succeed in this appointment. I am a Flexible, Impartial, Multi-skilled, Well trained and highly motivated person. I adapt well to new roles and am a quick learner who can meet the demands and responsibilities of this position. I have the ability to work well independently and also in a team environment.

As an Operations Branch Officer, one of my main responsibilities, ashore or afloat is the day to day management and supervision of all operations conducted, ranging from standard boarding operations at sea, handling of hazardous cargoes to conducting Gunnery Exercises, live firing practices and security operations. These types of common operations require a high degree of supervision and risk management to minimize accidents and incidents. From my experience, it is imperative to introduce incident preventative measures and develop risk assessments for all areas of Operations (both routine and non routine).
