Maritime Operations Management

Objective

Experience


Marine Operations Manager, CMA-CGM – Known as “The French Line”, CMA-CGM is the world’s third largest container shipping company and is ranked number one in France. CMA-CGM provides a complete range of activities including shipping-handling facilities in port as well as logistics on land (May 2009 to March 2011).

• Coordinate/oversee vessel operations involving stevedores/terminals, government agencies, tugs and pilots.

• Company liaison with owned/chartered vessels’ command, the welfare of entire crew being the priority.

• Distribution of inbound discharge lists and outbound final load lists of cargo. The coordination of special cargo (out-of-gauge and break-bulk) to load or discharge vessel with customers and terminal operators.

• Maximize the vessel capacity with efficient utilization of empty containers to balance any export shortfalls.

• Maintenance of vessel/voyage statistics involving productivity, capacity, time worked and volume of all cargo.



Superintendent, Ports America at Port of Los Angeles – Ports America provides the shipping community with a comprehensive network of stevedoring, terminal operating and related cargo-handling services for all types of cargo at major ports on the west coast (May 2002 - April 2009).

• Assist in directing in the preplan, execution, and supervision of the duties and labor normally associated with all aspects of cargo handling activities.

• Develop and maintain positive relations with the union (ILWU) workforce with a thorough knowledge of union contracts and ensuring adherence to policy and contract procedures.

• Training in all aspects of terminal operations; safety, logistics in the areas of the container yard, rail yard and vessel operations-including the pre-planning, scheduling, and the loading and discharging of vessels.



Commanding Officer, Cargo Afloat Rigging Team, (CART), Los Angeles, CA, U.S. Naval Selective Reserves (November 2007 - May 2009) Located in San Pedro, the officer-in-charge of thirty enlisted sailors as the naval reserve component to an ammunitions vessel.

• Supervision of all aspects of training, administration and medical readiness for potential combat deployment.



Vessel Assist – Vessel Assist Association of America (merged with Boat U.S): national marine-towing/assistance company. Newport Beach, CA. (August 2001 – May 2002).

• Dispatched towing vessels to Vessel Assist members and non-members in need of towing or salvage services.

• Office administration that included updating charts, time/speed/distance reports for our responding vessels, competency in VHF radio procedures/communications, chart-area familiarity tests, and updating equipment.



Account Representative (Broker Trainee) – MARSH USA INC (formerly J&H Marsh & McLennan) a fortune 500 corporation. Department of Marine & Energy Claims, New York, NY offices: One World Trade Center and Avenue of the Americas (August 1998 – March 2001).

• Managed accounts for both the Assured and the Insurer on the brokerage side; responsibilities in Protection and Indemnity, charterer’s liability, and cargo claims for shipping companies and their respective P&I Clubs (insurer). Negotiations with underwriters; assist senior brokers with client reinsurance renewals and losses.


Education


United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, New York (1994-1998).

• B.S. Degree: Marine Transportation, June 1998. In addition to school, studied on multiple containerships abroad to learn hands-on vessel operations in several foreign ports/countries.

• Commission: Naval Officer, U.S. Naval Reserve: June 1998 to present; promoted to Lieutenant Commander, July 2008.

• US Coast Guard License: Third Mate-Unlimited, Radar Observer-Unlimited, IMO advanced Fire Fighting, Dangerous Tanker-ship liquids, Hazardous Materials Training, CBR-D certified, 9mm pistol qualified. Security Clearance: SECRET
