Maritime Industry Professional

Objective


To continue serving the maritime industry utilizing over 35 years experience as a licensed merchant mariner, maritime consultant and industry professional. Using my training and background to improve marine systems and the environment.


Experience


1998-Present - Owner and Operator of PRO-MAR, Inc. Maritime Consulting Group. Specializing in marine surveys, project management, emergency response owners representative, environmental, safety, and homeland security compliance. Principle writer of over 250 response, security, safety, and

accident prevention manuals, and plans. Developed custom curriculum and trained entire companies to their individual security, safety, and environmental plan, or to corporate specifications.



Jamestown Marine Services, 1992-1998 Independent consultant responsible for marketing JMS corporate capabilities to the international maritime community, landing numerous long term contracts for emergency response, salvage, marine fire fighting, and technical writing services. Also managed a 12 man Salvage Action Response Team from 1993 through 1998. I developed training initiatives which allowed this team to respond to ship and barge salvage jobs, marine fire fighting initiatives, oil spills, and maritime emergencies. Became GM of Weeks Jamestown, Inc. (New England Area). Member of the Local Area Contingency Plan Committee, the Logistics, and Response Sub-committees.



1981-1993 - Sailed as Master for various companies such as Zapata, Moran Towing and Transportation, Seahorse, Great Point Towing, Ekloff Marine, Weeks Marine, and as an independent pilot for various small tug companies. The vessels that I was Captain aboard ranged in size from 80'- 220' and were powered from 1200 to 6000 hp. I was tow master for large semi submersible oil rig tows off the coast of Africa, Brazil, and the Gulf of Mexico. We provided salvage operations retrieving millions of dollars of lost equipment from depths in excess of 300'. I also was a master/pilot for large ocean going tug towing the 610' 35,000 ton dredge Long Island, the 20,000 ton bulk barge Caribbean, and numerous deep draft multi grade fuel barges along the east coast of the US. I also was the tow master the was responsible for the towing of bridge sections for the Jamestown, RI, and Spite and Dival (NY) bridge construction jobs. I was responsible for the development of maintenance programs, crew management, and the every day business of running a multi million dollar ship, and the management of our cargoes.



1977-1981 Sailed as licensed Mate aboard ocean going ships, and supply vessels world wide, with responsibilities of maintaining the safe navigation and maintenance aboard various ships, and vessels. In addition I was the safety, and damage control officer coordinating the safety and salvage lockers aboard the MT Vernon Victory a 50,000 ton multi grade tanker, the Phadra, a Shell Oil research vessel, the Alaskan Seahorse, and the Chap Tide, both of which were 210' 6000 hp anchor handling supply vessels. These vessels supplied wild cat oil rigs working off the US North East, and Gulf coasts. My responsibilities were to safely load and discharge cargoes, manage anchor handling crews, for rig moves, and handle the day to day management of the deck force, developing a maintenance program for the vessel, and implementing same.
