Maritime Cargo Claims Adjuster

Objective


I would like to achieve a position with a company in it's Maritime Cargo Claims department. I would like to utilize my 8 years dedicated experience in Maritime Claims and my 2+ years of warehouse, trucking and product liability claims handling.


Experience


CAMERICAN INTERNATIONAL INC. – Paramus, NJ

Claims Manager, 9/2009 to present

In charge of all claims matters within the company, this includes all cargo claims, invoice chargeback claims, and product liability claims. From the beginning stages of all claims of the reporting all the way through to the finality of all claims. Also responsible to audit and approve all warehouse inventories on a monthly basis, with warehouses ranging from Baltimore, Maryland all the way to Los Angeles, California.



Outcomes:

? Created a database to track all claims and potential claims issues.

? Assisted in the implantation of a new company computer system that handles purchases, sales, claims and traffic.

? Have taken control of all of the warehouse inventories and audit them on a monthly basis to ensure that cargo is being reported properly when they enter and leave the warehouses.

? Have been able to successfully negotiate claims with transportation companies with better outcomes then what the company was originally able to obtain.

? Have taken ownership of all Certificate of Insurance matters, yearly updates and making contacts with our insurance carriers when new ones have to be issued.

? With past accounting experience was able to take control of all warehouse invoices for approval and audit purposes.



MAERSK LINE - Madison, NJ

Senior Claims Specialist, 06/2001 to 11/2001, 09/2004 to 7/2009

Handle claims to determine extent of company’s liability, make approval or denial decisions and negotiate settlements with claimants in accordance with individual contracts, bills of lading and maritime law. Work closely with internal and external personnel to ensure that the correct actions may be taken so settlement is done in accordance to company policy.

Outcomes:

? Handle Maersk’s largest account’s cargo claims, United States Military, in matters of dry and perishable matters. Extremely complex claims with high profile and received the attention from Senior Management in many phases of the investigation.

? Handle complex break bulk cargo matters for Maersk’s subsidiary company Safmarine. These claims were for coffee and cocoa products and had a successful outcome for claims, mostly negotiated below 50% in matters where company had liability.

? Major Casualty claims, claims where there is a high degree of exposure for the company that needs to be handled from the first day of notice to final resolution.

? Received excellent appraisals by my direct supervisor for constant achievements of the company’s set goals.

? Created databases to be used by the department to streamline refrigerated cargo data handling and to create a “paperless” system.

? Month reporting activity to senior management on behalf of the department.



MAERSK LOGISTICS - Morristown, NJ

IT Support Analyst, 11/2001 to 09/2004

Supported internal and external customers in the matters of Maersk Logistics cargo booking/viewing systems. Claims adjusters in processing hundreds of first- and third-party auto insurance claims. Trouble shooting, immediate resolution, and timely reporting were keys to the function to ensure that customer service was achieved with the highest regards.
