PROFILE

 

More than 20 years sailing experience, with extensive background in managing, supervising and mentoring work teams and contractors in domestic and international locations as Marine Superintendent, Internal Auditor, CSO, Marine Advisor and Ship’s Captain. I have experience in the combined fields of the Gas (LNG & LPG) and Oil / Lightering operations – STS (Ship to Ship). Clear Safety Record. Handled successful Start-ups, Pre-Commissioning & Commissioning through Normal Operations for the LPG FSO Terminal as part of the Escravos Refinery in Nigeria and Gassing Up and Gas Freeing Operations for Moss and Membrane (Steam and DFDE) LNG vessels. Experience with major and complex capital projects. Also, I have over 13 years teaching experience as Associate Professor on the Faculty of Maritime Studies.

WORK HISTORY

 

  • BW - Marine Superintendent / Internal ISM, ISPS & MLC Auditor / CSO                    May 2016 – March 2017

• Maintain overview of Oil major periods for re-inspection on assigned LPG and LNG vessels.
• Keep overview of Oil major inspection requirements.
• Responsible for distribution of information regarding vetting inspections, including pre-vetting activities.
• Arranging OCIMF and CDI inspection in cooperation with fleet and shore based staff to meet customer requirements.
• Assist Master with vetting inspections as necessary and reply on vetting reports to the Oil majors directly.
• Ensure that close-out of observations/non-conformities given to the vessel during audits and inspections are addressing the rectification of actual finding and preventing recurrence.
• Follow-up and maintain vetting database records that include details of the inspecting company inspector, date, port, negative findings and remedial action.
• Fulfill responsibilities of CSO for assigned LPG and LNG vessels.
• Assist the Alert Team as required in all aspects deemed necessary by the Alert Team Leader.
• Maintain appropriate contacts with the industry, evaluate, test and recommend new equipment.
• Familiar with applicable national/international rules and regulations, industry requirements and advice Management accordingly.
• Ensure all assigned LPG and LNG vessels are acceptable for business at all times barring company policy limitations.
• Ensure effective close out of all non-conformities, observations and deficiencies resulting from internal or external inspections/audits on assigned vessels, addressing the rectification of actual finding and preventing recurrence.
• Monitor Fleet LPG and LNG ships as required through audits, inspections or routine visits as needed.
• Monitor, analyze, manage and minimize loss due to miss-operation, accidents and incidents.
• Assist with incident investigations and root cause analysis in cooperation with Safety Manager and in agreement with line manager, closing out deficiencies, making recommendations and putting in place preventive measures.
• Assess the operational risks from a marine/navigational perspective for assigned vessels.
• Assess submitted risk assessments and revert with remarks when deemed necessary for acceptance.

• Execute Internal Audit ISM, ISPS and MLC for Company vessels.

• Execute Internal Navigation Audit for Company vessels.

• Responsible for BW Navigation Manual and also I'm involved in restructuring, optimizing and creating the new BW Navigation Manual which will be in constructed as per latest Industry standard.

 

 

  • Chevron - Captain: LNG (DFDE) Vessel                                                                             Nov 2014 – Dec 2015
    • Ensured a safe, efficient and cost effective operation and that all operational practices met Company, Flag State, Port State and commercial requirements of various Charter parties.
    • Practical ship handling experience of large LNG vessels and STS (Ship to FSRU) operation. Also completed two weeks Practical Ship Handling Courses (Bahia Blanca and Escobar) in the SIPORT21 at Madrid - 2014.
    • Extensive experience with LNG terminal rules and regulations;
    • Handled various vetting inspections (SIRE) in accordance with guidelines laid down by OCIMF; involved in preparing for and ensuring the successful outcome of Flag state / Class Surveys, Port State Control Inspections and ISM/ISPS Internal and External Audits.
    • Familiar with international legislation (e.g. MARPOL, SOLAS, ISM, ISPS) and industry standards, codes and guidelines (e.g. ISGOTT, SIGTTO).

 

  • Chevron - Marine Advisor: Team member of the OPS and Navigation Resource Projects    May 2013 – Oct 2014
    • Operational Consultant for two on-shore operational excellence projects:
      • The OPS Project’s objective is to restructure and optimize the Company operating procedures and their governance so that every job can be performed the right way, every time.
      • The Navigation Resource Project’s objective is to create an identified process, system, technique and methodology that will reliably lead to a desired result and is widely recognized as improving an organization’s performance in the area of Safe Navigation.
    • Provided guidance/leadership and advice as subject matter expert.
    • Steered the development of a new Navigation department and created project plan.

 

  • Chevron - Captain: Lightering Vessel                                                                                                  2012-2013
    • Practical ship handling experience of large vessels as STS (Ship to Ship operation); also completed Manned Model Course in Warsash (UK) and Singapore as well.
    • Ensured a safe, efficient and cost effective operation and that all operational practices met Company, Flag State, Port State and commercial requirements of various charter parties.
    • Responsibility for the correct implementation of navigation, seamanship and cargo handling policies for oil vessels; provided leadership and guidance across the complete spectrum of a ship's operations.
    • Extensive experience with oil terminal rules and regulations; also attended various Ship/Shore Interface Meetings.
    • Handled various vetting inspections (SIRE) in accordance with guidelines laid down by OCIMF; involved in preparing for and ensuring the successful outcome of Flag state/Class Surveys, Port State Control Inspections and ISM/Security Audits.
    • Carried out mandatory and proactive safety inspections on board, analyzed and investigated incidents/accidents /near misses, generated non-conformances and prepared plans for corrective action.

 

  • Chevron - Cargo Superintendent: LPG FSO                                                                                        2006-2011
    • Part of the EGTL/Escravos Gas-to-Liquids and EGP-3 Projects.
    • Loaded LPG, handled storage and offloading operations, including cargo planning, tank preparation, loading, stowage, discharging, sampling of cargo and the preparation of reports and records related to the cargo in compliance with Company Procedures.
    • Experience in tandem mooring arrangement between FSO and export LPG Tanker.
    • Trained personnel in all aspects of cargo handling, shipboard safety and firefighting techniques.
    • Provided expert marine advice and consulting support to others.

 

  • Chevron - Chief Officer: LPG Tankers                                                                                                2005-2006
    • Responsibility for vessel's cargo operations (loading and unloading), ship’s stability, supervising the deck crew, safety and security of the ship, as well as the maintenance of the ship's hull, cargo gears, the lifesaving appliances and the firefighting appliances.
    • Replaced the Ship Master in his absence.

 

 

  • MOL - Chief Officer: LNG Tankers                                                                                                      2001 - 2004                                      
    • Responsibility for vessel's cargo operations (loading and unloading), ship’s stability, supervising the deck crew, safety and security of the ship, as well as the maintenance of the ship's hull, cargo gears, the lifesaving appliances and the firefighting appliances.
