Marine Scientist – Independent Consultant May 2007 – present

Lobecker Coastal and Ocean Services

• Field deployment through Dof Subsea Norway to Iceland for prelay fiber-optic cable survey, and to various locations in the North Sea for pipeline inspection, pipeline prelay, and power cable protection verification surveys. Provided geophysical and video data interpretation and quality control.

• Field deployment to Papua New Guinea surveying for “black smokers”, for use as potential mineral sources. Responsible for multibeam sonar data management, quality control, and acquisition. Used CARIS for multibeam data editing, and job-specific proprietary software for sidescan data interpretation.

• Field deployment to nearshore Florida for fiber-optic cable route survey. Responsible for geologic data interpretation and quality control. Managed data stream from multiple data sources.



Marine Scientist

Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC), Newport, RI August 2002 – May 2007

• Conducted hydrographic surveys utilizing state of the art multibeam, sidescan, and interferometric sonars, in conjunction with related computer data acquisition, navigation, and sound velocity profiler systems.

• Worked in Alaska, Gulf of Mexico, East Coast of US, East Coast EEZ, Gulf of Maine, and Hurricane Katrina-affected Louisiana waters including the Mississippi River and Lake Borgne.

• Daily lead or independent survey launch operations, under lead hydrographer.

• Night lead and data manager for multi-vessel survey operations.

• Ensured precision and accuracy of data according to contract specifications.

• Performed regular maintenance and troubleshooting of hardware and computer components of data collection systems.

• Interpreted hydrographic data for corrections to NOAA nautical charts, with regard to depth iso-baths, soundings, obstructions to navigation, and bottom characteristics.

• Clients included NOAA, the Naval Oceanographic Office, the UNH Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping, USGS, and the Gulf of Maine Mapping Initiative.

• Performed rigorous beta testing of proprietary hydrographic data collection and analysis software prior to deployment.



Associate Director of Communications

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC-U.S.), Washington, DC January 2000 – July 2002

• Generated textual and marketing materials for the promotion of the FSC branding system for responsible forest management and wood tracking. Managed and generated website content, produced a bi-monthly newsletter, and prepared press releases. Monitored subsequent media coverage.

• Managed contractual relationships with Washington, DC and Vermont based communications and marketing firms.

• Represented FSC at stakeholder meetings, and national conventions.
