I was a sponsored candidate sent by the company for one year pre sea training. I completed my one year course and was ready to said as a 5 engineer post my studies. During my training I completed the certifications required as per company standards



May 2010 – March 2011:

After completion of my training and certification, my company sent me for my first voyage as 5th Engineer. Following were my responsibilities:

• Complete Pipeline Tracing

• Bigles Handling

• Sludge Handling

• 2nd Engineer’s watch routines and log book updating

• Work on month end reports

• Incineration

• Learn the operations and maintenance of machines

• Obeying 2nd Engineer orders

• Working with senior officers in repairing the broken down machinery in emergencies

• Take reading from different parameters of diesel and main engine in respective log books

• Take readings of the main parameters from different machinery gauges and log them twice a day

• Copy all the readings from log book to an excel sheet and send to the company

• Filing of Oil record book, Marpol log book and tanks measurements under supervision of Chief Engineer

• Expected to know the starting procedures of all emergency systems such as emergency generators, Co2 system and different types of fire extinguishers.

• Actively participate in emergency drills such as fire drills, boat drills, etc

• Should be ready with full knowledge of starting procedure of life boats engines and also where about of various emergency equipments in life boats and life rafts.

• In charge of ships purifier, main air compressors, bunker officer- in charge of ships bunker operation under supervision of Chief Engineer

• Maintenance of Sewage treatment plant under supervision of 2nd Engineer

• Maintenance of main engine under supervision of 2 nd engineer

• Maintenance of Auxiliary engines (generators) under supervision of 2nd & 3rd Engineer

• Incinerator under supervision of 2nd Engineer

• Maintenance of various centrifugal n reciprocating pumps under supervision of 2nd Engineer

• Maintenance of boilers under 2nd & 3rd Engineer

• In charge of tyre flaps n dampers

• In charge of lifeboat engine under 2nd Engineer’s supervision

• Maintenance of refrigerator and air con systems under supervision of Chief Engineer
