Objective

2000 to present



Principal Marine Surveyor and General Manager

Henderson International LLC – Salalah, Sultanate of Oman



I set up this Company in year 2000 and built it up, being responsible for the entire operations, including surveying, business development and training of junior surveyors. During this period I have carried out a number of different types of surveys, such as :



• Vessel condition surveys for Major P & I Clubs, Hull & Machinery Underwriters, Flag States and Owners

• Vessel and Cargo Damage Surveys for P & I Clubs, Shippers or Receivers

• Draft Surveys of dry bulk cargo ships

• On-Hire and Off-Hire surveys

• Bunker and Liquid Cargo quantity and quality surveys

• Pollution incidents, Fire Damage and Flooding surveys

• Towage approval surveys

• Container (dry & reefer) damage surveys

• Issuance of Hot Work Permits and Gas Free Certificates

• Preparation of repair specifications, negotiating with the yard and repair supervision

• Preparation of ISM Documentation for local ship owners

• Registered Expert witness for the Court in Salalah



In March / April 2004, I worked for C.R. Cox & Associates, Fremantle, Australia and obtained some local experience. During this period, I was involved in draft surveys, hold inspection of grain ships, cargo damage survey and chemical tanker sampling & quantity survey in the ports of Kwinana, Geraldton and Albany.



1991 to 2000



Senior Surveyor

Henderson International LLC – Dubai, United Arab Emirates



I started with this Company in July 1991 as Junior Surveyor and steadily rose in the career ladder to become Senior Surveyor and Deputy General Manager of the Company.



During this period, I have carried out various types of surveys and ship repair superintendence as follows :



• Vessel condition surveys for Major P & I Clubs, Hull & Machinery Underwriters, Flag States and Owners

• Vessel and Cargo Damage Surveys for P & I Clubs, Shippers or Receivers

• Vetting inspection of VLCC/ULCC vessels for Oil Majors

• General and Particular Average Claims

• Draft Surveys of dry bulk cargo ships

• On-Hire and Off-Hire surveys

• Bunker and Liquid Cargo Surveys

• Fire Damage and Flooding surveys

• Towage approval surveys

• Container (dry & reefer) damage surveys

• Issuance of Hot Work Permits and Gas Free Certificates

• Preparation of dry-dock and repair specifications, negotiating with the yard and repair supervision of ships, SPMs, FPSO vessels

• Preparation of ISM Documentation for local ship owners



During my tenure in Dubai, I have developed the Company’s ISO 9000 system documentation from concept to full Certification with American Bureau of Shipping, and subsequently trained other staff to carry out internal audits and maintain the system.



1987 to 1991



Technical Manager

Marine Resources Development Co. – Melbourne, Australia



I joined Marine Resources Development in 1987, shortly after migrating to Australia, as a Superintendent in charge of maintenance of the Company’s fleet of chartered factory fishing trawlers. There was a total three trawlers operating out of the port of Welshpool, Melbourne. I was responsible for the maintenance and technical management of the vessels, which included monitoring of the vessels’ performance, assisting the Chief Engineer with planned maintenance schedules by getting spare parts and stores on time to the vessel, negotiating repair jobs with shore based companies and timely repairs during vessel’s port call, etc.



1984 to 1987



Engineering Superintendent

Comex Middle East – Sharjah, United Arab Emirates



This was my first shore based employment, since leaving the sea in 1984. I joined Comex as a Superintendent in charge of maintenance of the Company’s fleet of Offshore Diving Support Vessels and Work Barges for the oil industry. There were eight vessels in the fleet consisting of various types of operations. I was responsible for the maintenance and technical management of the vessels, which included monitoring of the vessels’ performance, assisting the Chief Engineer with planned maintenance schedules by getting spare parts and stores on time to the vessel, negotiating repair jobs with shore based companies and timely repairs during vessel’s port call, etc.



1974 to 1984



Marine Engineer at Sea



I went to sea in 1974 as Junior Engineer, and worked on board various types of ships such as General Cargo Ships, Bulk Carriers, Container Ships and Oil Tankers, rising to the rank of Second Engineer. During this period worked on various types of Main and Auxiliary Engines such as MAN, Sulzer, B & W, Harland & Wolf, Rolls Royce, Daihatsu, Deutz and other engines.



1969 to 1974



Marine Engineering Apprenticeship

Mazagon Dock Ltd. – Bombay, India



Attended a 4 year apprenticeship at the above named shipbuilding and repair yard in Bombay. During this time, learned the basics of engineering in the various departments of the shipyard, namely basic training, mechanical repair shop, boiler shop, electrical shop, coppersmith shop, blacksmith shop, planning, afloat repairs of ships in port.
