Experience


RECENT YACHTING EMPLOYMENT

Aug 12 - Present. I am self employed, running a team of 5 managing the maintenance periods of yachts from 70ft to 70M during refit periods including Lloyds register compulsory maintenance and surveying standards.

Jan 12 - July 12 Captain / Engineer. 31M Maiora. looked after all aspects of running this fast motor yacht with 5 crew including charter use and undertook all the yearly servicing before sale of vessel to new owners in Hong Kong.

Sept 11 – 19 Jan 2012 2nd Engineer M/Y Michaela Rose, 49.19M. Duties included all aspects of maintenance of all systems aboard this motoryacht including AC, Genset rebuilds, Engine rebuilds and all normal operational procedures.

Nov 10 = Aug 11 38m SY Gloria. Mate/ Engineer. I was involved in running all the engineering systems and all deck operations throughout this period. Including crew management and Installation of new Air Con and Shorepower systems.

June 10 – Sept 10. 95ft S/Y Sunbird. Captain / Engineer for the summer season taking the vessel from France to Scotland for West Highland Week and then back to Bordeaux where the vessel was sold.

July 09 – Nov 09 105ft S/Y Tigerlily. – Engineer for the season in the med, Undertaking all the maintenance and servicing of twin perkins engines and twin northern lights gensets.

May 09 – July 09. 95ft S/Y Sunbird. - Mate for transatlantic from Antigua to Palma via The Azores. Undertaking all aspects of watch keeping and vessel maintenance to the high standard required for the owners.

June 08 – May 09. 130ft S/Y Offspring. – Skipper/ Engineer for the trip from Scotland to the Caribbean and then the subsequent 7 months cruising in the Caribbean with numerous guests.

August 07 – June 08. Swan 70 Serrano. Skipper. I was involved from completion in the yard running with 3 crew throughout the busy Caribbean season with two transatlantics and racing in St Tropez, Heineken week and ASW until the vessel was sold in June 2008.



PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE

2003 – August 2005. Voluntary Mate, Ocean Youth Trust Scotland.

During this period I gained experience in working with young people from many differing backgrounds, usually their first time on the water in demanding circumstances. Highlights included Tall ships Races and voyages around Iceland and to the Arctic Circle.



1996 – 2003 – Engineer, Rolls Royce Marine and Industrial Gas Turbines Ltd.

Duties included the Assessment, Installation and servicing of Gas turbines for marine and industrial power sources, which included Power stations, offshore installations and large marine vessels in numerous locations worldwide.

Rolls Royce Training Centre (Design, Manufacturing, and installation training)

Glasgow college of Nautical Studies Conversion of above Degrees to MCA Y4 CoC

Management and consultancy of Small and Large Scale Refits

18 month circumnavigation with owners onboard full time so can cope with challenging situations while keeping the owners piece of mind.

Knowledge of all Marine communication and guest AV and vessel PLB controlled systems
