• Planned, directed and performed as necessary the activities of the
Engineering Department in carrying out assigned functions and
responsibilities. Had overall responsibility for the engineering,

specifications and estimates for major system modifications and
overhauls. Assured that contractual repairs and service work was

supervised complex or difficult technical work and activities that were
crucial to the ship’s mission. Supervised department personnel,
including evaluating and recommending candidates for departmental
positions; planning and directing work assignments; training
personnel and arranging training for subordinates; administering a
formal performance evaluation process; EEO; assured proper
timekeeping and leave planning; and initiating disciplinary action
when required. Enforced compliance with all applicable laws, federal
and agency regulations, and ship’s command orders within the
department. Reviewed safety practices and conditions in the
department and other pats of the ship periodically and recommended
appropriate improvements. Stood engine room watches at sea and
in port when required; on call, at sea and in port during non-normal
work day hours as required. Performed other mission related duties
