Objective


I will carry out preventive maintenance of the main propulsion Engines, Power production and distribution sets, daily fuel tanks and storage tanks, fuel filtration system, sea water and fresh water cooling system, piping systems and valves. Maintenance and repairs of various pumps. Training of the men for fire fighting . Maintaining safety standard in all the jobs carried out on-board. Keeping all the main engine and GenSets log readings also the parameters log books. Preventive maintenance of auxiliaries. Making sure that water integrity are maintained and keeping the rules and regulation under control.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Marine Engineering Technician2, Fleet Support Group West = Jan1979-May1979.

I was deployed in Heavy Engineering workshop, were we carry out various types of jobs that includes maintenance of Generators, fabrication of engine parts and Ships structure parts, maintenance of deferent types of Pumps onboard the ships, Welding works. From the work shop we form a team to execute jobs onboard ships and patrol boats.

Marine Engineering Technician 2, NNS ENYIMIRI = May1979-Sep1989

As a Marine Engineer Technician onboard Nigerian Naval Ship, I carry out effective preventive maintenance of Propulsion engines, Generator Sets, Fueling Systems, Maintenance of Pumps, Air-Condition and Refrigeration Plants, Fire Fighting System and any other repair works onboard ship. Embarkation and Disembarkation of POL Product onboard.



Watch Keeping Officer Fleet Support Group East =Jul1989-Jan1992.

In this appointment, I was in Shore establishment as a Technician, in technical department in Calabar area Nigeria, i was involved in Power Generation and Distribution, maintenance and repairs of Generator Sets, Generator Installation, Maintenance of Outboard Engines onboard Patrol Boats, maintenance of Buildings, Water Boreholes and treatment plants. Supervision of contractors for contract jobs. All logistic requirements including procurement, Storage and Distribution.

Assistant Marine Engineering Officer(AMEO) NNS Damisa=1989-1990

This appointment is 2nd in command for all marine engineering work onboard Naval Ship. This include maintenance of ships, propulsion system, main engineand Generating Sets, POL product, Water system, Air-Condition and Refrigeration Plants, Piping works.

Marine Engineering Officer(MEO) NNS OHUE=1990-1993.

The MEO is the head of the Department of the marine engineering department onboard the ship. I was responsible for the safety of the ship, maintenance of main engine for ship sailing from point A to point B, in charge of power generation and distribution, Docking of the ship for refit work, Training of the men under him, etc.

Base Technical Officer(BTO) NNS ANASA Calabar = Jul1993-Jul1995.

The Base Technical Officer is the head of the Marine Engineering department in shore establishment. I was in charge of power generation and distribution, maintenance of Genset for constant power supply, maintenance of water treatment plant, Bore holes, Road, Building, Installation of Generators and electrical equipments, Supervision of Navy Projects, Administrative works, POL Product Distribution to ships and Patrol Boats, Rendering account for fuel usage and spare parts management. Training of the men on the jobs and for the safety of the ship. Keeps daily record of the activities.

Maintenance Engineering Officer in Nigerian Defense Academy KadunaDec1995-Jul1996.

I was involved in training of Officer Cadets. I was in charge of power generation and distribution, maintenance of Genset for constant power supply, maintenance of water treatment plant, Bore holes, Road, Building, Installation of Generators and electrical equipments, Supervision of Navy Projects, Administrative works, POL Product Distribution to ships and Patrol Boats, Rendering account for fuel usage and spare parts management, Maintenance of Air-Condition and Refrigeration.

. Marine Engineering Officer (MEO) Onboard NNS EKUN = 1996-1998.

I was in charge of Engineering department on board the Nigerian Naval Ship during ECOMOG Operation in Liberia and Sierra Leon. I was responsible to make sure that both the Main Engines and the Generator sets are ready at all time. I was responsible for the safety of the ship, prepare the Ship for Docking and supervise the refit work, Training of the men under him, etc.

Staff Officer Grade 2in Fleet Maintenance Coups (FMC) Lagos=1998-1999.

I was in charge of the preventive maintenance of the Generators, Keeping record of Ships Docking at Nigerian Naval Dockyard. Supervising the Contractors for Ship hall repairs. Training of the technicians in marine engineering works.

Staff Officer Grade 2 in Naval Drafting = 1999-2000.

I was in charge of Drafting or distributing marine technicians Onboard the Naval Ships. Also responsible for power generation and distribution in my location, Maintenance of Generators, maintenance of water treatment plant, Bore holes, Road, Building, Installation of Generators and electrical equipments, Supervision of Navy Projects, Administrative works, POL Product Distribution to ships and Patrol Boats, Rendering account for fuel usage and spare parts management, Maintenance of Air-Condition and Refrigeration.



Staff Officer Grade 2 in Sea Trial of the Ships after Refit = 2000-2001.

I was involved in sea trial of the Ships after Docking for the Machineries that is the main engines and the Generators that were repaired while the ship was in the Dock. This activities will involved testing all the equipments onboard the ship to make sure they are up to standard which will include Water treatment plants, Piping system, Air-Condition and Refrigeration plants. Training of the men onboard for the new equipment installed onboard.

Military Observer Mission in western Sahara Morocco = 2001-2002.

While I was inSmara team site which is co-located with North Sector Headquarters, I held the following appointments:- Generator Officer, Welfare Officer(G5), Assistance Motor transport Officer(AMTO), Assistance Administrative Officer(G3), Fire Safety Officer. After nine months, I was taken to MINURSO headquarters as G4 Engineer in charge of all the generators maintenance in the Sectors.

Manager Mechanical Production in Nigerian Naval Dockyard = 2002-2006.

While serving in Nigerian Naval Dockyard before I retired voluntarily from the Nigerian Navy, My responsibilities in the dockyard were as follows:- (i). Fabrication of some spare parts for main Engine and Generators major overhauling. (ii). MTU Engines repair Leader. (iii). Fire safety Officer. (iv). Quality assurance Officer, that is making sure that all the materials procured for over hauling of the Generators and main Engines and refitting of the Ships met the standard. (v). Manager project coordinator for some ship refits. Manager Foundry. In charge of Zinc anode produced for ships protection under water. (vi). Maintenance and repairs of dockyard main docking Pumps and the Gates. (vii). Air-Condition and Refrigeration Officer. (viii). In charge of Mechanical Workshop.

Generator Mechanic/Technician in United Nation Mission in Liberia = 2006 - 2011

1. I am responsible for POL products and fuel consumption supplied for Generator Operation. In charge of over 150GenSets, performing a verity of skilled tasks in Mechanical and Electrical works, supervision , installations, maintaining/repairing including installation of Generators, Fuel external Tanks, connecting fuel lines systems pertinent to Engineering Section in UNMIL. Planning and recommending short and long term improvements on the most economic way on daily operation of the Generator Unit. 2. Provide guidelines ensuring proper Generator Sets utilization, and compliance with manufactures recommendation for the preventive maintenance programmed. Ensure that the highest standards of safety procedures are followed in accordance to manufacturer specifications when repairing and fitting replacement parts. 3. Adhere to technical standard, maintaining quality control for maintenance/repairs and developing modern improvement to the service. 4. Supervise and evaluate work performance of 12 National Staff on their ability, conduct, reliability and effectiveness on the daily performance and their appropriately assigned. 5. I render maint/service and quality control to gensets on loan basis as authorized by the Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Engineering Officer. 6. to identify various faults on gensets, diagnosis and ratifying repairs to all ans service both mechanical and electrical defects. 7. To prepare genset for deployment in various locations within the area of my responsibility. 8. Control all parts/materials that being issued for all gensets and keep daily records on all activities to the Unit. Including, requesting spare parts/tools/materials in support of gensets for smooth operation. 9. Coordinate with spare parts warehouse for parts up date. Assists in inspection of genset spare parts once arriving at R & I and confirm that are standard and durable. Maint/Repairs other machinery and equipment

I Onah Chidozie Nichodemus a marine Engineer by profession and served in engineering field for more than 35years. I served on board the ships and establishments for 26years before retiring voluntarily from Nigerian Navy in 2004 and joined the United Nation in Liberia (UNMIL) as Generator Mechanic/Technician for 6year as United Nation Volunteer. I served onboard ships as Marine Engineering Officer (MEO) for more than 19years. I took the ship as MEO to ECOMOG Operation to Liberia and Sierra Leon.
